The astonishing wealth of the late, great actor Gene Hackman has been uncovered following the devastating announcement of his death at 95.

News broke this week that the legendary star was sadly discovered deceased in his home, alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their beloved pet dog, with a number of unanswered questions raised.

However, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza has confirmed that there is no suspicion of foul play involved in the deaths, but the deaths are being treated as “suspicious”. While Sheriff Mendoza did not disclose the cause or time of death, he reassured locals that there was “no immediate danger” to others and that they were in the midst of a “middle of a preliminary death investigation”.

Hackman, who also penned novels, had a glittering film career ranging from his 1964 debut in Lilith to his role as Monroe Cole in Welcome to Mooseport in 2004. He scooped more than 30 awards, including two Oscars, two BAFTAs, and four Golden Globes.

Over his lengthy career, Hackman won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1972 for his portrayal of Jimmy ‘Popeye’ Doyle in The French Connection and another for Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven. He accumulated a significant fortune over the years, with a total net worth of $80million (around £63m), according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The Hollywood icon’s career spanned more than 100 roles in 85 films, as well as TV and stage appearances. His memorable performances include playing Lex Luthor in the Superman series, Buck Barrow in the classic Bonnie and Clyde, and Royal Tenenbaum in Wes Anderson’s acclaimed The Royal Tenenbaums, reports the Express.

Born back in 1930, Hollywood legend Gene Hackman pulled a fast one by fibbing about his age to join the military at the tender age of 16. After a four-year stint, he ventured into acting and became a big name following his Broadway gig in Any Wednesday back in 1964.

This role catapulted him into the limelight, earning him his first Oscar nod for Bonnie and Clyde, and another for I Never Sang for My Father. In 2008, Hackman gave acting the boot, switching the spotlight for the pen as he turned his hand to novel writing, enjoying the “loneliness of it.”

He hitched up with Betsy in 1991, but despite being loaded and famous, they dodged the glitzy showbiz lifestyle.

During what would be his last public appearance, Hackman looked frail as he walked out with his wife Betsy at Pappadeaux’s in Santa Fe, New Mexico, spotted in March 2024.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office announced: “On February 26, 2025 at approximately 1:45pm, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address on Old Sunset Trail in Hyde Park where Gene Hackman, 95 and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, and a dog were found deceased.
