Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, has passed away at the age of 82, the country music legend has confirmed in a heartbreaking statement shared on social media
Country music icon Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, has died at the age of 82 after nearly six decades of marriage.
The singer shared an official statement on Instagram, which read: “Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He was survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie.”
Dolly added her own heartfelt message, saying: “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
The announcement ended with a request for privacy from the family during this challenging time.
The couple tied the knot in 1966, just two years after they met in a local laundromat when Dolly was just 18.
In her own candid words, Parton previously said men were her “weakness,” saying she has fancied an array of men over the years.
She said: “Short, fat, bald or skinny – I’ve had crushes on some very unusual men but Carl knows I’ll always come home and I’m not having sex with these people – I’m just flirting and having fun.”
In her 2017 autobiography ‘Dolly on Dolly, Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton’, the Nashville legend wrote: “He’s not jealous and I’m not jealous of him. He knows I flirt. He flirts too.
“Yes, it’s an open relationship, but not sexually and I would kill him if I thought he was doing that.”
Dolly stressed the deep trust within their union with a hint of humor: “He would shoot me too. At the end of the day we love each other madly.”
The couple did not have any children, but Dolly has always been close to her god-daughter Miley Cyrus.
After sharing the news to her 7.3 million followers, thousands of fans offered their condolences and support to the 79 year old legend in the comments section.
