Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian, who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, has now finished her treatment and been able to reveal to fans that she’s cancer-free
Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian has announced that she’s cancer-free.
The 43-year-old actress was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in June of last year after discovering a lump she had thought was a blocked milk duct while breastfeeding her daughter Isabella. She has undergone weekly chemotherapy treatments and kept fans updated on her cancer battle with posts on social media.
In November 2024, she revealed she’d been hospitalised at Cork University Hospital as she needed urgent medical attention. However, she confirmed she’d returned home and thanked the hospital staff for “taking care” of her.
Ali has now confirmed she had a successful mastectomy in january and i’s “free from cancer”. She wrote: “Thank you so much for all your birthday messages last week, I’m honestly so grateful for all the love and support from my little corner of social media.
“I wanted to update you all. I’m on to my final week of radiotherapy, which should mark the end of my active treatment — I hope and pray for good! I had my mastectomy in January, which was thankfully a success and has healed really well. It proved that my chemo had worked.
“As I sit here right now, I’m free from cancer. I can’t even believe it.” She went on to thank the “incredible” staff at Cork University Hospital for providing her with such great care during her cancer treatment.
Ali continued: “The nurses have given me compassion, time, and space to share and talk about my experience of a very challenging treatment pathway — one that, although we thank God exists, is not only a lot for the body to process but an awful lot to process mentally and emotionally.”
She wanted to praise one member of staff in particular – Stef – who serves tea to chemotherapy patients. Ali said “you make an incredible difference to a lonely journey.”
Ali added: “To be coming out of the other side of this feels unreal. After the shock of a diagnosis, it’s hard to let in the light and believe that it might just be OK. The road back to my life won’t be a linear one… and I will share with you, as always, as much of my truth of this experience as I can.
“I am so, so grateful for all of your support. People with cancer, experiencing cancer treatment, need love. Full stop. Unconditional, arms-around-you love and support.” She ended her post with an inspirational message, adding: “When it’s dark, look for stars.”
Ali’s famous pals and fans rushed to the comments to congratulate the star on her cancer breakthrough. Her fellow Hollyoaks alum Sarah Jayne Dunn wrote: “You are incredible.”
Ali played Becca Dean on Hollyoaks from 2001 until 2007. She and husband David O’Mahony, 42, share their two daughters, Izzy and Isla.
