Gogglebox cast tragedies – horror work fatality, devastating deaths and divorce

Channel 4’s Gogglebox has been gracing our TV screens for the past 12 years and in that time it’s ever-evolving cast has gone through their share of highs and lows

Gogglebox has been lighting up our screen for the past eleven years – but the show’s cast has seen it’s fair share of chaos and tragedy over the years.

This comes as Gogglebox faves Stephen Lustig-Webb and husband Daniel have announced they will be divorcing after six years of marriage. The former couple quit the show in 2024, after Stephen appeared on the Channel 4 show for over 10 years.

On Friday (March 7), he broke the news: “It’s with much sadness Daniel and I have decided to divorce. There is, and always will be, a lot of love there but we’ve unfortunately grown apart and made the decision to part ways.”

Daniel also told The Sun on Sunday: “We’ve made the decision with a very heavy heart to confirm our marriage has come to an end. I’m sure we will forever be friends.”

But this isn’t the only catastrophe the cast has seen, with many deaths and a run in with the law also on the books. In 2022, former Gogglebox star Andrew Bennett was jailed for a sex attack on a teenage boy.

Andrew, 50, admitted one charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two charges of sexual activity with a child.

A Newcastle Crown Court was told, that Andrew took selfies with his victim, cornered him on a sofa, and tried to lure him to a bedroom for sex. The TV personality, of Gleneagles Road, Sunderland, was jailed for 29 months and will be ordered to sign the sex offenders register and abide by a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

In addition, sadly, not all of the stars are still with us from the cast of the show which began in 2013. This includes George Gilbey’s tragic death, the reality star passed away aged 40 was due to an “accident at work” in 2024.

The TV star sadly died at the scene after he fell from a height and was injured. George used to appear on the show with his mum Linda and step-dad Pete, who passed away from his cancer battle in June 2021 age 71, after being told he only had six months left to live.

Sadly these were not the only deaths to rock the cast, after Stephen Webb’s mum Pat died aged 75 after suffering from a “long illness” in January 2024. She starred on series 10-12 with him.
