The social media account which checked if Lorraine Kelly was missing from her ITV chat show has been removed after Lorraine herself called its remarks “hurtful”
The viral social media account which checked if Lorraine Kelly was hosting her show that day has been shut down.
The creator of the account has apologised after the telly host said it was “hurtful”. Lorraine herself hit back at the account, saying it was unfair and that she was a “grafter”, but had to apologise this morning after swearing on air.
The page posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, under the username LorraineKWatch, and announced whether or not Lorraine or a stand-in was presenting the ITV show that day. Lorraine first started presenting the self-titled show all the way back in 2010.
She usually hosts Monday to Thursday, with a cover presenter stepping in for the Friday, including Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh, who has been struggling with her own problems since the death of her dad. Michelle Visage also stepped in to cover last summer.
The account first started documenting Lorraine’s whereabouts back in February 2023, and calculated a percentage of the shows she had been there for. In a recent post, the creator of the X account wrote: ‘Lorraine Kelly did not host her own show this morning, with Ranvir Singh stepping in.
“#Lorraine has hosted 32 episodes out of 47 (68.1%) this year. Ranvir has hosted 6 episodes, Christine Lampard has hosted 9 episodes.” The account, which had built up 26,000 followers, has now been shut down, after Lorraine complained about it.
She told the Guardian it was “really hurtful”, explaining: “I’ve not spoken about it before. I’m a grafter and I work really hard and I’ve had to take Fridays off for the past year. I just thought it was weird to care so much.”
Lorraine revealed she initially started taking Mondays off because her mum was ill, and added: “It sort of brings you into line with everyone else because if you look at This Morning, everybody else does four days.”
She added: “Maybe it just started off as a wee joke, but it’s the way that everyone piles on. It starts off as a wee tiny thing and it gets bigger and bigger, I find it really sad.”
The creator of the account has told Metro: “I am really sorry to hear that Lorraine has found the account hurtful after previously agreeing that it was lighthearted fun. As I’ve said throughout, this was never meant to cause any harm so in light of Lorraine’s recent comments, it only feels right to stop here.”
They posted on the account: “I have always said that if Lorraine or her team reached out and asked me to stop this account then I would. While I have not had contact with Lorraine or anybody affiliated with her, her comments in this weekend’s The Guardian make it clear that the joke has run its course and it is time for it to end. I have said time and time again that this was only ever meant to be fun and I’m very grateful to everybody who has enjoyed it with me.”
“There was never any intention of hurting Lorraine’s feelings and I am sorry if I have done so. Goodbye my Lorrainvirstines.” Fans of the account shared their disappointment.
One wrote: “Can’t you hand the account over to someone who doesn’t mind?” while another added: “This one hurts.” “Surely it’s time for a ‘Where is the Where Is Lorraine?” account” joked one. “Oh this isn’t fair, it’s my daily amusement” complained one social user.
However some fans agreed: “I can tell it was all done in fun and I’ve laughed at the posts and the comments often, but seeing that some other comments were a bit harsh and it’s been taken in the wrong way, totally understandable. Thanks for the lolz, viva Lorraine, Queen of ITV!”
