The world of yachting isn’t all glamour. It can be very dangerous too.

One person who knows that all too well is Harry Van Vliet, who appears on Below Deck Down Under. Early on in season three, Harry was left screaming in agony after a horror accident with a jet ski.

His hand got caught in the mechanism and he was left with a gash in his thumb. It threatened to end his charter season, but thanks to his strong will he continued on with smaller jobs until he could get back to normal.

However, speaking to Daily Star, Harry confessed he has another issue on-board. And it’s something he can’t get away from very easily.

He told us: “That was not a good day when that happened to my thumb. I thought I was gonna have to get off the boat.

“Honestly, I was in so much pain. I didn’t sleep that whole night.

“I thought, if this thing’s broken, I’ve got to go and I though, I had so much potential. I was coming in so strong.

“I wanted to prove to [Captain] Jason [Chambers] that I had what it takes.”

Showing us his healed thumb, Harry smiled: “It’s back now. The thumbs are all good.”

He went on: “In terms of injures, it’s definitely the highest I’ve ever had, to go to hospital from a boat before. So it’s definitely number one.

“But being so tall, I bump my head all the time and on boats nothing’s built for tall people, so I’m constantly hitting my head on door frames and hatches that I’m opening. Always getting cuts and stuff.”

He laughed: “I hope nothing worse happens!”

Luckily, it’s not all been pain for Harry, as he’s been growing close to stewardess Brianna Duffield. However, viewers watched as he shared his excitement at the romance, while Brie complained it wasn’t moving along as fast as she wanted.

Harry has taken it as a lesson, though. He told us: “That’s definitely something interesting to watch back.

“It definitely shows that I need to be more communicative – thinking I’m all good, I’ve got the girl, everything’s sorted, but obviously not. Obviously I’m not being clear at all.

“Being able to watch that back, it’s going to change the way I communicate day to day, which is really good, I think.

“But I guess they say the book for understanding a girl’s massive, I guess the one for understanding a guy’s just as big.”
