Chas Dingle actress Lucy Pargeter has opened up about her time on Emmerdale, admitting that she “didn’t expect to still be here” after more than two decades on the soap
An Emmerdale icon has confessed she’s shocked to still be on the show after over two decades of drama in the Dales.
On a recent instalment of the Off Script… Coronation Street and Emmerdale podcast, hosts Kelvin and Liz Fletcher caught up with Lucy Pargeter, who’s been bringing Chas Dingle to life for an impressive 23 years.
Kelvin pointed out Lucy’s well-known dedication to her craft, which she attributes to her passion for the job while sharing her perspective on her long-standing role, reports Leicestershire Live.
Lucy revealed feeling “lucky” to have landed the part after initially signing up as a “stripping nun” and discussed the challenges. However, she considers the opportunity a “privilege”.
She expressed: “Because I love my job and I’m lucky to have my job and every day, I go into work, I know I’m lucky to still be making this my job, 23 years later after I first signed up to be a stripping nun, you know what I mean?
“I didn’t expect to still be here and for my kids to have got a beautiful place to live, be surrounded by my mates, be challenged every single day, even you know…there is not a day that I go in (and) all I say is, ‘Would you like a pint?'”
She concluded: “It’s a privilege. I’m so blessed to have that job and I will never ever take it for granted because it can be taken away from you at any point.”
Lucy, a veteran star of the beloved soap since 2002, recently spilled the beans on her thrill for performing stunts following a dramatic plot that saw her character Chas take a tumble in the Woolpack.
In the nail-biting sequence, Chas ended up hospitalised post-collapse, an ordeal that followed recouping from a limo wreck that tragically claimed the lives of Suzy Merton, Leyla Harding, and Amy Wyatt.
Miraculously, however, Chas ended up making it through, but she has been grappling with chronic backache ever since, resorting to painkillers for relief.
However, the rumour mill has since been buzzing with speculation about Ella Forster (portrayed by Paula Lane) possibly having meddled with Chas’s medication.
During an interview on the same podcast, Lucy opened up about her passion for action-packed scenes, recounting how she “did a really good job”.
She said: “Chas has a little incident, she’s got a bad back from the limo, fell through a big hole in the ice, that was fun at 3am. She did her back in, she’s on painkillers, she feels a bit woozy, and she knocks herself out. I love a stunt by the way. I think I did a really good job.”
