Sydney Sweeney’s Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell had an interesting response to rumours that he and the actress are dating, following reports that she called off her wedding
Glen Powell had an interesting response to the romance rumours surrounding him and Sydney Sydney.
The pals played lovers in their saucy 2023 rom-com Anyone But You, but many fans wondered if it was more than just on-screen chemistry and speculated about a romance between the two. Both denied it at the time.
However, the rumours were fuelled again when Sydney attended Glen’s sister’s wedding as a guest. She reunited with Glen at the Texas wedding following rumours that she’d called off her wedding to partner Jonathan Davino.
Glen has now addressed the romance rumours, or at least sort of, during an appearance on Today’s Jenna & Friends with Jenna Bush Hager and guest host Olivia Munn. Jenna seemed to reference the dating rumours as she asked Glen: “The wedding caused a little bit of a stir. Did that surprise you?”
Glen laughed it off and replied: “You know, timing is everything in this world, isn’t it? She and Syd are obviously great friends and it was a hell of a wedding. It was just such a fun, rowdy wedding.”
He continued: “The Powells know how to crank it up. The Powells know how to do it right and so all the people that love her were there.”
It’s said the pair are just “friends” but suggested things could blossom into romance. “I’d say friends,” a source told The Sun and US Sun. “Very close relationship and bonded over their work together on the film. Same sense of humor and both get on well. SNL showed how well they get on.
“Could be romance one day but ultimately they are just close friends at moment. He has been a great support.”
Last week, it was reported Sydney had called off her wedding to Jonathan. It’s claimed they haven’t split but are living separately and are trying to work things out.
A source told US Weekly: “Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split. Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet. They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now.
“They were supposed to get married this spring. The wedding is not happening, and they aren’t having further discussions about it. Sydney wanted to cancel everything and couldn’t handle the stress. A lot of their issues stem from Sydney being extremely busy with work commitments”.
The source added: “Things are also always tense between them when she is promoting a movie because she has to give her full attention to the project, and people always speculate about their relationship and Sydney being close to her costars. It’s a tough dynamic for Jonathan”.
Sydney recently deleted a photo of her kissing Jonathan, another potential sign they are not together. She also posted a video of her riding in a hot air balloon alongside the caption: “Only up from here.”
In 2023, Sydney herself admitted she was unable to focus on her wedding plans due to her work commitments. She told Entertainment Tonight: “‘I am so busy working! I’m a workaholic and I love it, I love it,”
The star has spoken about her wedding plans and how it’s something she has always dreamed of. “What girl doesn’t create a Pinterest board for their wedding?,” she told Glamour. “I started making that when I was like 10. I don’t have a color scheme yet.
“I’m more of an experience planner, so I’m like, ‘What experience do I want to give people? Are we going on a tropical vacation? Are we doing a carnival?’.”
