Duffy, whose real name is Aimée Anne Duffy, returned to the spotlight last month for the first time in a decade but has now been hit with more heartbreak after receiving some tragic news
Duffy is facing heartbreak just days after announcing new music after a decade-long hiatus.
Tragic news has hit the singer, born Aimée Anne Duffy, after she stepped back into the public eye last month proudly recording a video to promote a remix of one of her iconic tracks.
Duffy is now grappling with the loss of her mother Joyce, who sadly passed away at 69. The singer, now 40, had been distant from her familial ties but was on the path of reconnection with her loved ones.
Tragedy struck when her mum died of a stomach ulcer, reports the Mirror. Despite regularly talking to her mother by phone, the Warwick Avenue songstress didn’t get to share physical space with her for years, interactions severed even before the Covid pandemic lockdowns.
In a shock move last month, a video of Duffy took TikTok by storm. The clip showed her mimicking her own hit tune with the words: “You got me begging you for mercy, why won’t you release me,” to promote a remix of her song Mercy.
Fans couldn’t contain their excitement in the comments, thrilled to see Duffy stepping back into the limelight after 10 years away from music. One TikTokker exclaimed: “Duffy! Where have you been? ! We missed you.”
Another chimed in with delight: “OMG it’s so good that she’s back,” while someone else wrote: “It’s so great to see Duffy back. What a tremendous singer she has always been.”
One fan gushed: “Actually love Duffy so much. One of my first live concerts was watching her at the Apollo in Manchester and I had the album on repeat for months.”
Back in 2020, the ‘Mercy’ star broke her silence about a terrifying ordeal and told fans that she was drugged, raped, and taken abroad. This harrowing episode led Duffy to withdraw from her career and the public gaze completely.
Having dominated the charts with the UK’s best-selling album of 2008, along with scooping up three Brit Awards and a Grammy, Duffy virtually disappeared after releasing her 2010 album.
In a candid post on her website back in 2020, Duffy courageously spoke about the ordeal: “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country.
“I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me.”
The celeb revealed she then “could have been disposed of by him”. She considered making a run for it but feared he might get the cops on her.
“I do not know how I had the strength to endure those days, I did feel the presence of something that helped me stay alive.”
