Elton John uttered nine chilling words to loved ones before suicide attempt

Music legend Elton John has opened up about his mental health battle and past struggles with drugs, and recently got candid about his heartbreaking suicide attempt

Elton John uttered nine heartbreaking words before he attempted suicide.

The beloved musician recently addressed his previous mental health struggles in the Disney+ documentary Never Too Late. The 78-year-old explained that he once tried to take his own life, despite fame and fortune in the 70s.

“My career was killing me, all I live for is my chart position and sex and cocaine. I felt ‘there must be something more to my life than this’.”

He also opened up about his drug use: “I was the worst kind of person to take drugs because I couldn’t have a line and then put it away, I’d have to finish it off and then I’d want more.”

“When you drink that much and you do that much drugs, it’s like I was dead and looking at it from up in heaven, thinking ‘who the f*** are you? What have you become?'”

Elton admitted that his behaviour left him worrying about his loved ones: “I just wanted someone to put their arm around me, I was nervous about my family seeing what kind of state I was in.”

Days before he was due to play at the Dodgers Stadium back in 1975, things became too overwhelming for the singer to handle.

While eating with his family and friends, Elton turned to those closest to him and said: “I’ve taken a bunch of tablets. I’m gonna drown.”

Paramedics saved the Candle in the Wind singer and pumped his stomach in an attempt to save his life. Elton’s nearest and dearest were deeply concerned and remained by his side as he slept, thankfully waking up the next morning after the incident.

Amazingly, the singer still performed at the Dodgers Stadium mere days later. 50,000 people were in attendance and Elton lit up the night, many unaware of the horrifying incident that had played out just days before.

Recently, the Are You Ready For Love singer revealed that he broke down while working on a new song. He appeared on the Smartless podcast and explained that he was reduced to tears while thinking about his own mortality and leaving his husband and sons behind.

He told hosts Sean Hayes, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman: “I wrote a song at the end of the album and I just get the lyrics, Bernie Taupin’s lyrics called When This Old World Is Done With Me.”

“And so I’m writing the verse, like, ‘Oh, this is really pretty’. And then I get to the chorus and, of course, it’s about my death.

“When you get to my age, which is near 100, you think, ‘How much time have I got left?’ And you’ve got children, you’ve got a wonderful husband, you just think about mortality. So, when I got to the chorus, I just broke down for 45 minutes and it’s all on film.”
