Strictly Come Dancing’s longest-serving judge, Craig Revel Horwood, launched a typically villainous attack on his co-stars during the first night of his current tour. He claimed to be the only judge of importance on the panel and slammed some of his former colleagues.

The 60-year-old BBC star, who has judged on the show since its inception in 2004, disregarded his fellow judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Motsi Mabuse, telling his audience that “there is no other judge.”

However, Strictly’s Horwood also later admitted that he hoped his remarks would help boost ticket sales for his new Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing tour.

Never one to hold his tongue, or avoid playing the villain, Horwood told the crowd that any competition for the top spot had ended when his rivals, Len Goodman and Arlene Phillips, left the show. Original head judge Goodman left Strictly in 2016, before his death in 2023, while Phillips unceremoniously lost her seat due to a decision by BBC bosses.

Speaking forthrightly, the Sun reports Craig Revel Horwood saying: “There is no other judge. I created it. They are either dead or have been sacked.”

The judge of 21 years was unrepentant over his typically venomous tongue, adding“I get booed heavily but I enjoy playing the villain.”

Craig Revel Horwood, not wanting to miss anyone out, also took a shot at Tess Daly, who he said would often ask “dull questions,” while presenting the show. He also singled out Shirely Ballas, sharing a behind the scenes moment: “I am not joking. Her boobs were . . . hanging out. It was not very, erm, Strictly.”

A showbiz veteran, Horwood knew his incendiary comments about his fellow judges would draw media attention, something he does not mind flirting with if it can drum up larger crowds for his new tour. He told the audience: “We are going to be in the news. We need it as this is the beginning of the tour and we need to sell the tour.”

Horwood had equally critical words for his BBC employers, who pay him a £200,000 a year salary. He blasted the corporation for forcing him to choose a different title for his third autobiography, which he had wanted to call ‘Strictly Confidential.’

However, after some quibbling over the use of ‘Strictly’ that led to the star being barred from using the show’s name, Horwood was forced to change the book’s title to ‘Strictest Confidence’.
