The White Lotus’ season three finale, Amor Fati, has left viewers with one burning question as they expressed their frustration over a major plot hole on social media
Spoiler Alert – This article reveals major plot points from The White Lotus’ season 3 finale.
The third series of HBO’s smash hit, The White Lotus, wrapped up on Sunday (6th April) and aired on Sky in the UK on Monday, with legions of die-hard fans already tuning in.
As more telly addicts catch up on Mike White’s critically lauded satirical drama, one thing about this week’s season finale, Amor Fati, has become glaringly obvious – a key plot twist doesn’t quite tally.
In this year’s gripping episodes, a bold revenge scheme unravels as Rick Hatchett (played by Walton Goggins) jets off to the White Lotus resort in Thailand with his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood).
But what she doesn’t know is that he’s secretly plotting a detour to Bangkok to meet his mate Frank (Sam Rockwell) and confront the bloke who supposedly killed his dad, Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), according to Mirror US, reports the Mirror.
After setting up a rendezvous with Jim and his missus, the resort’s owner and ex-actress Sritala (Lek Patravadi), under the guise of discussing a film project, Rick pulls a gun on Jim before heading back to the hotel.
This is where it all starts to go pear-shaped as Rick hadn’t banked on Jim and Sritala tailing him back to the hotel. When Jim orders him to scarper from the resort, Rick fights back by nicking Jim’s gun and shooting him stone dead.
In the latest shocker from the White Lotus finale, heartache struck as Sritala revealed that Jim was Rick’s dad, setting off a gunfight that culminated in her telling security man Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to sort out her spouse’s killer.
The drama peaked when Chelsea unwittingly got caught in the crossfire and lost her life, which spurred Gaitok into heroics, taking down Rick while trying to salvage his severely hurt partner.
But this episode has fans baffled and annoyed over Rick’s decision to rock up back at the resort—a surefire place to bump into Sritala and Jim. Social media is buzzing with viewer gripes and turmoil.
A sarcastic Redditor quipped: “Yeah let’s go back to the hotel owned by the guy I just pushed over in his home.”
Others piled on with similar surprise: “THIS! That made no sense to me. Uh, time to checkout!” One fan found humor in Rick’s bizarre choice: “The fact that he spent the night too lmao. Like I get going to grab Chelsea, but finishing out your stay? Really?”
Commentary kept coming through, like “Truly bizarre. What gave him that confidence? He knows Hollinger has hella guards.”
There was more disbelief: “That part doesn’t make much sense tbh.”
The arguments spread to X (previously known as Twitter), where followers carried on dissecting the narrative flaws, with posts like “Rick staying at the hotel made no sense and him finding out it was his father was meh.”
And “It really makes no sense that Rick and Chelsea were even still at the hotel tbh.”
However, one savvy Redditor chimed in with a different take, suggesting Rick’s dodgy decision-making was bang on brand for the show: “It’s in line with going to the same hotel chain where a man met and murdered his wife.”
Some fans reckon it’s all part of Rick’s character, with one viewer noting: “Shows how self absorbed he was in his revenge, it fits that it didn’t even cross his mind.”
