Celebrity Big Brother has officially kicked off its 2025 series, but it wasn’t long before the reality show started rubbing some viewers the wrong way – and they made it known
Celebrity Big Brother sparked complaints just minutes in.
The iconic reality show returned to ITV on Monday night (April 7). Stars such as Patsy Palmer, Mickey Rourke, JoJo Siwa and Jack P Shepherd stepped into the iconic TV house, which has had a fresh makeover.
The celebs will have to live together for the next few weeks inside the TV house and will be put to the test as they take part in challenges and nominations and face live evictions. The launch show saw hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best welcome the latest batch of famous faces into the house.
However, it wasn’t long before people watching at home took to X, formerly Twitter, to complain about one thing in particular as The One And Only hitmaker Chesney Hawkes entered the house.
The eighties pop star was given a mission just minutes after he became the first to step inside – and it rubbed some fans up the wrong way. He had to introduce himself to housemates as “the one and only Chesney Hawkes” – a nod to his 1991 hit that topped the UK singles charts for five weeks.
It seems viewers were getting sick of the song already. One fan moaned: “Drink every time they play that abysmal song #CBBUK,” and another predicted: “We’re so gonna hear this song 500 times this series.”
A third posted a snap of someone hitting the bottle and wrote: “The next 3 weeks of that song playing whenever Chesney gets screentime: #CBBUK.” A fourth added: “I’m already sick of that goddamn song”.
Chesney admitted to viewers that he has no issue getting his kit off. Will cheekily quipped: “You are the wang and only!”. He greeted fellow hitmaker JoJo Siwa, who was next to enter, and kept doing it as co-stars Trisha Goddard, Chris Hughes and Patsy Palmer walked in.
Asked what he’s looking forward to the most about doing the show, Chesney revealed it was the chance to learn more about himself. He said: “I’m 53 and I’ve spent 53 years with myself, so I think I know myself pretty well.
“But I reckon I’m going to learn stuff about myself. If you can reach your mid 50s and there’s potential to do that, then that’s really exciting.
“And I think I’ll learn some stuff about other celebrities that I didn’t know as well – so that’s interesting. Oh and Tuesday night is the night we put the bins out so I’m looking forward to not doing that.”
Last year, reality star David Potts won the show, with Strictly Come Dancing’s Nitkia Kuzmin finishing in second place. Ahead of the new series, Nikita shared some advice for the new housemates.
During a chat with ITV’s Lorraine, he said: “I think, at the end of the day just be a good person, number one. If you’re not, listen if you’re going to get yourself cancelled because you’re not a good person, then it’s fair enough!
“But, at the end of the day, if you treat everybody nicely, everything should be fine and just enjoy the time.”
