Love Island star Chris Hughes has suggested he could find love in the Celebrity Big Brother house, following his public splits with several female celebs in recent years
Chris Hughes has had a rather rocky love life.
The Love Island 2017 star is one of the housemates on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother [CBB]. He stepped into the house during the launch show on Monday night (April 7) – joined by stars such as Hollywood hardman Mickey Rourke, pop star JoJo Siwa and Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd.
Chris has hinted he is looking for love in the house. After being introduced on the ITV reality series he said: “I’m Chris Hughes, I am a television presenter, but I’m probably best known for Love Island, back in 2017. I didn’t quite meet the love of my life, maybe I’ll find it in the Big Brother house, who knows.”
Chris and ex Olivia Attwood met in the Love Island villa during the 2017 series and became one of the most popular couples on the show. The pair ended up finishing in third place and moved in together after leaving the villa, even getting their own reality show, called Chris & Olivia: Crackin’ On.
However, their relationship broke down and they split in 2018. Olivia herself has admitted to speaking to former footballer Bradley Dack, then her ex and now her fiancé, while she was dating Chris.
Sources close to Olivia claimed Chris had allegedly messaged Katie Price – which he has denied. Olivia said things didn’t work out between her and Chris as they were “incompatible” – telling the Mail: “It was toxic with Chris and we argued a lot. I never had that problem with Brad, we never argued.
“I was just incompatible with Chris. You meet on this show and things are very different in the real world. You think ‘oh s*** do we actually have stuff in common?’ It wasn’t meant to be.”
In emotional scenes that aired on their reality show, Chris said of the split: “I’m not walking away from us, I’m saying it’s the only thing that we can do. We’ve tried everything Liv and we’re not f****** happy.” Olivia has since admitted it’s going to be weird seeing her ex on CBB.
After Olivia, Chris went on to have a very public relationship with former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson. Back in 2019, the singer and the reality star seemingly confirmed their romance with a cheeky kiss in a kebab shop.
In June, Jesy and Chris finally admitted they were an item, taking to Instagram with a loved up post during a romantic trip to Ireland. The pair split and then rekindled things – seemingly going from strength to strength and even sparking engagement rumours.
Jesy referred to Chris as her “future husband” in a gushy social media post, sending fans wild. And he supported his girlfriend through an incredibly difficult period in her personal life, during the launch of her BBC documentary Odd One Out.
The doc followed the songstress who had been constantly trolled about her appearance since she found fame with Little Mox on The X Factor in 2011. However, the relationship didn’t last.
A spokesperson for Jesy confirmed that she and Chris were no longer together. A source told The Sun: “Jesy and Chris split up a couple of weeks ago. It was all very amicable and they’re still really good friends. Jesy rang Chris and led the conversation about their relationship and both agreed that it felt like it had run its course – they’re both absolutely fine.”
At first, the Love Island star admitted he had struggled to come to terms with the split, but Chris and Jesy are said to still be friends, having parted ways amicably.
A year after their split he confessed to The Sun on Sunday: “It was a tough period in a lot of people’s personal lives and it was for me too, as breakups are never easy. It was difficult. Sometimes you just grow apart.
“There have definitely been days when I wake up and things haven’t felt great. The period 12 months ago was really tough. There were days where I was waking up and our split was the first thing I was thinking about.”
He added: “I was thinking, ‘I hope I feel good today. I hope mentally I feel all right’. I had to try my hardest mentally to break the cycle.”
Jesy and Chris split in lockdown, a time when dating was tricky for most people given the restrictions on who we could meet up with. Chris confirmed to the same publication that his dating life was a “s***storm,” because he preferred to meet prospective partners in person.
In August 2021, Chris confirmed he had started dating professional golfer Annabel Dimmock, insisting that he’d “never felt this way,” about someone before. In an interview with The Sun, Chris said: “I met her [Annabel] on the golf course, spent a lot of time together and yes, it was lovely. We get on well with each other.
“Obviously, I’ve met loads of girls over the last however long and you talk to people but I’ve never got that buzz with anyone, since my last relationship.”
Annabel has competed in the likes of Ladies European Tour, the French Lalla Meryem Cup and the 2019 Evian Championship. Sadly, the couple broke up in 2022, after a year of dating.
Chris confirmed to The Sun that he was once again “struggling” with another break up. He said: “I always struggle a bit when it’s fresh out of a relationship because everything feels different. But I’m in the gym, I’m keeping myself busy with work.
“I’m all over the shop. I’ve got good friends and family around me which is a blessing as well, so I feel good.” Chris is believed to have remained single since his split from Annabel.
