Azizam singer Ed Sheeran shocked his followers on Instagram as he revealed a totally different ’emo’ look in a new set of photographs that he uploaded to the platform
Ed Sheeran has stunned fans with an eye-popping “emo” makeover.
The Shape of You singer, 34, is known for his fresh-faced look and ginger hair, and is usually instantly recognisable thanks to his soaring fame. But he changed things up completely in a set of images he shared amid the release of his new song, Azizam.
Posted on Instagram, the snaps showed Ed – who has two children with his wife Cherry – looking very different. The singer had completely transformed, with longish jet black hair styled into a sweeping fringe and tucked underneath a woolly grey hat.
His blue eyes were hidden behind big black glasses and Ed was wearing black clothes from top to toe. He even sported a fake lip ring in some of the shots.
As he uploaded the carousel of images to the platform, Ed said he “genuinely had a MySpace photo like this when I was 14”. He also hinted that the lip ring might become permanent, telling fans: “Fake lip piercing but might just do it yolo.”

His followers were blown away by the dramatic makeover, with many saying he looked “emo”. “Emo Sheeran wasn’t on my bingo card today but slay,” one said in the comments section.
“Emo Ed has made my life,” said another. “Wait Ed you actually rock the emo look,” posted another of the chart-topper’s followers.
“I think the black hair, the piercing and clothes look absolutely amazing on you!” one fan commented. “Loving it!” exclaimed someone else.
Others said they wanted to see more of the star’s new look. “Emo Ed is literally my favourite Ed, pls make this become a real thing for at least one music video,” urged one fan. “Go on tour dressed only as emo Sheeran pls,” somebody else suggested.
“Get a lip piercing stud for the fun of it pls,” said another, as somebody else said his new image was “awesome”.
However, it seems not everyone was a fan, with one of Ed’s followers admitting: “I love you but this was almost a jump scare.” “I want the old Ed back please,” pleaded another.
Ed’s new Persian-inspired track, Azizam, was unveiled this month. The name of the song is a term of endearment, which means “my dear” or “my darling” in Farsi.
