Hollywood legend Mickey Rourke certainly made a splash when he first appeared on our screens during the Celebrity Big Brother launch.
The 72-year-old actor has been stirring things up in the famous house as he mingles with his fellow celebs, including Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd, Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa, and EastEnders icon, Patsy Palmer.
The ITV reality show has only been back on our screens for a week – it kicked off on Monday night – and already, boxer-turned-actor Mickey has got viewers talking with his antics. Some fans are calling for him to be booted out of the house, while others have lodged complaints with Ofcom.
So, what exactly has Mickey been up to that’s caused such a stir? Let’s delve into the controversial Celebrity Big Brother housemate’s behaviour….
‘Creepy’ conduct
ITV viewers labelled the Hollywood star’s entrance onto the show as ‘uncomfortable’. He made his debut on Monday night when hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best introduced this year’s housemates to the iconic Celebrity Big Brother house.
Mickey caused quite the stir as the last celeb to strut into the house, kicking things off with a rather intense moment. He seemed to give host AJ the eye as she greeted him, before getting a bit too handsy and touching her more than necessary.
But it didn’t stop there; Mickey got majorly sidetracked by the live crowd, trying to slap a high-five with everyone on his way to the house door.
The star of The Rainmaker was so caught up mingling with the fans that AJ had to shove him into the house, and he even tried to pull her in after him, reports the Mirror.
Following the cringe-worthy scuffle, viewers rushed to X to express their worry for AJ, with one commenting: “Someone get some security for AJ from Mickey Rourke because what the hell was that? ? ? ?” Another posted: “Mickey’s entrance is the strangest entrance I think there’s ever been on this show. Poor AJ.”
Fat-shaming alert
Mickey’s on thin ice with viewers who are now baying for his removal from the show after he made some dodgy comments about a fellow housemate’s weight. The actor from The Wrestler was spotted chatting with comedian Donna Preston.
As she lay on his bed donning an LED face mask, Mickey quizzed her about whether she was seeing any results.
Donna confessed she hadn’t been using the mask for long, which led Mickey to quip: “You’d probably be better off running round the block for ten minutes.”
Donna hit back: “I’ve got to try something. I’m getting a little turkey neck,” and Mickey retorted: “It comes with the territory.”
Looking puzzled, Donna asked him: “What, life?” To which Mikey responded, “Yeah,” and added: “It’s like they say, you are what you eat.”
This left Donna visibly taken aback before Patsy Palmer jumped in to defend her, pointing out that she knows the comic eats “really healthy”. After nodding in agreement with the EastEnders star, Donna later expressed her bewilderment to housemates Danny Beard and Ella Rae Wise.
She tried to laugh it off, but couldn’t hide her astonishment at Mickey’s “you are what you eat” remark. Danny light-heartedly suggested that Mickey must think Donna “were gonna lose half a f****** stone just by putting an LED mask on”.
The exchange sparked outrage among fans against Mickey once again. One Twitter user /X vented: “Does Mickey have an issue with Donna? ? Is she ‘too fat’ for him? ?” Another chimed in: “I just realised Mickey has been homophobic, said Patsy’s cooking is s*** and called Donna fat all in THE FIRST DAY! ! ! Has he got his own bingo card he’s trying to mark off? ? ? #CBB #CBBUK,” while a third fumed: “Erm is that Mickey fat shaming Donna? Jesus! #CBB”.
Homophobic slurs
JoJo Siwa was left in floods of tears after Mickey dropped a shocking homophobic clanger. The actor landed himself in hot water once more when he lobbed a homophobic jibe at JoJo.
In a conversation on the previous night’s episode, he quizzed JoJo: “Where’s the smoke room? Where’s the cigarette room?,” and then prodded further with: “Do you like girls or boys?”
“Me? Girls. My partner is non-binary,” JoJo answered, to which Mickey retorted: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.”
Standing her ground, JoJo assured him: “I can guarantee I’ll still be gay and I’ll still be in a very happy relationship.”
Mickey, heading out to the garden, then asked Love Island hunk Chris Hughes if they get to pick who gets the boot. He told Chris: “I’m going to vote the lesbian out real quick.”
JoJo, catching wind of this, hit back: “That’s homophobic, if that was your reasoning.” Chris stepped in, cautioning Mickey, “You can’t do that Mickey,” but Mickey wasn’t backing down. He blurted out: “I need a [cigarette],” and with a nod towards JoJo added, “I’m not talking to you.”
Chris intervened again, insisting: “Mickey, you can’t say that. “I know. I was talking about a cigarette,” Mickey countered, as JoJo was seen visibly shaken by his remarks. It wasn’t just Chris who had JoJo’s back; Big Brother summoned Mickey to the Diary Room and gave him a stern telling-off, warning him against making such derogatory remarks about fellow housemates ever again.
Big Brother dished out a stern warning: “Mickey before you entered the Big Brother house the rules regarding unacceptable language and behaviour were explained to you … Mickey, do you understand how this language could be offensive to your Housemates or the viewing public?”.
“Yeah I think so. If I was saying it in a nasty kind of way or if I truly meant it,” Mickey shot back, only for Big Brother to clap back with: “Mickey, Big Brother thinks your language was offensive and unacceptable. As a result, Big Brother is giving you a formal warning. Further language or behaviour of this nature could lead to you being removed from the Big Brother house. Mickey, do you understand?”.
Mickey came clean: “Yes I do. It’s some serious stuff …. I apologise. I don’t have dishonourable intentions – I’m just talking smack you know. I wasn’t taking it all so serious. I didn’t mean in it any bad intentions and if I did, sorry.”
Housemate havoc
In just three days inside the house, Mickey’s managed to get up the noses of nearly half the crew with his banter. From fat-shaming Donna to lobbing a homophobic slur at JoJo, Mickey’s inadvertently landed in hot water with Chris Hughes, Danny Beard, and Patsy Palmer thanks to his off-colour comments.
On the latest episode of the ITV hit, Mickey snubbed Patsy’s culinary efforts after she whipped up a lush dinner for the gang. Instead of a simple cheers, Mickey chose to diss the EastEnders legend’s noshing skills, leaving Patsy serving him nothing but stink eyes.
Earlier in the week, as the celebs were still sussing each other out, viewers were gobsmacked by Mickey’s grim habit when he took to cleaning his gnashers at the kitchen sink. And it wasn’t just the folks at home who were miffed; Patsy was nearly gagging as she watched him scrub away over the unwashed crockery.
