Vanderpump Rules icon Jax Taylor spoke about how much the breakdown of his marriage affected him, resulting in him taking copious amounts of cocaine before hitting rock bottom
A reality icon has confessed how he turned to cocaine after his marriage broke down.
Jax Taylor, 45, first found fame on Vanderpump Rules – a spin-off from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and filled with drama, including a high-profile cheating scandal. Aside from this, the stars of the show have gone on to forge their own careers and lives, including saucy antics with A-list celebs and giving birth to their own children.
But for Jax, his time on the show would see him at the pinnacle of his career, before he eventually fell into issues with his wife Brittany Cartwright. The pair had been married for five years, but officially called things off in February of 2024, which was documented on Pump Rules spin-off The Valley.
Speaking to UsWeekly about the breakdown of his marriage, Jax revealed that the pair split due to his growing addiction to cocaine. He went on to explain that Brittany leaving him was the wake-up call he needed in order to go to rehab and get clean.
“I was in my house by myself for months,” Jax explained in the interview. “I wasn’t eating; I was drinking and doing enough cocaine to kill a small horse – I went on a full-on tear.”
The star said that he hit “rock bottom” after Brittany, 36, ultimately left the marriage behind after years of wedded bliss. The couple’s relationship had already become strained, with Brittany eventually becoming Jax’s estranged wife due to his drug addiction.
Reflecting on his substance abuse, Jax confessed: “The devil on my shoulder was louder than that angel on my shoulder.” He also admitted that he spent so much money on the white powder that he “could probably buy a house” with the total amount spent.
Last month, Jax proudly admitted that his dependency on cocaine resulted in him going to rehab on two separate occasions. It came after Brittany said she was “skeptical” about Jax’s ability to get clean, but praised her former husband for admitting he had a problem.”
Speaking to People magazine, she said: “For the first time, I can speak openly about the extent of trauma he’s instilled on our family over the years. I’ve tried desperately to help him without success.
“I pray that one day he completely knocks this addiction, but I’m skeptical,” she continued. “His behaviours are still alarming and his treatment plan seems to be the bare minimum.”
Jax and Brittany share one child together – a son, Cruz, whom Brittany said has been drastically affected by Jax’s addiction. She finished by sharing her hope that her ex-husband will be able to become “a better person” for their child.
Brittany and Jax first met back in 2015, with their relationship blossoming on the hit reality TV show. Fans loved their romance so much, the pair were able to land their own spin-off – Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky.
However, as the series wore on, both Jax and Brittany began to struggle in their relationship, with every up and down in their love for each other being broadcaster for everyone to see. The pair eventually tied the knot back in 2019, but were given the boot by Vanderpump Rules just one year later.
