Michael Fabricant’s blonde barnet has sparked an unlikely feud in the Celebrity Big Brother house, but it’s not the first time his hair has been the topic of speculation
Michael Fabricant’s mysterious hairdo has been causing some tension in the Celebrity Big Brother house.
The former Tory MP, 74, gave viewers quite the shock earlier this week when he exposed his bare bottom by the hot tub. He has already opened up about his bi-sexuality, hinting that he and his partner of 35 years enjoy an open relationship.
The ex-politico always denied having a wig but recently addressed the rumours surrounding his famous blonde barnet. And things turned a little tense in the house when EastEnders star Patsy Palmer decided to quiz him on his Boris-like locks in front of their co-stars – and the viewers watching at home.
But what is the truth? It’s hard to say, but Daily Star has rounded up everything we know about what lies beneath the locks.
Wig-gate
Patsy, 52, grilled Michael about the locks on Thursday night (April 10), asking him: “Michael is there a reason that you wear that? That you wear a wig?” He seemed startled by the question, replying: “Oh,” before telling her: “I just have always had long blonde hair so I just feel comfortable.”
Patsy continued to probe him, asking if it was because he is bald, prompting him to tell her he didn’t like talking about it. He said: “No not particularly no, just because I’m… I don’t particularly like talking about it but it’s just how I want to be. It’s part of me.”
The actress asked him how long his hair used to be, and he said: “My hair used to be really long. It’s always been really blonde.” But it seems the topic ticked him off as he later nominated Patsy for the eviction – revealing his hair is a ‘sensitive’ topic to him.
In the Diary Room, he told Big Brother: “I really have found it very hard but I’m going to nominate Patsy. She asked me something about ‘Why do I wear a wig?’ and you know, I’m not saying it is a wig, actually, but what I am saying is I found it slightly awkward being asked about it. I just don’t like my hair being raised.
“People have, you know, sensitivities and that’s my sensitivity. Look, we’re all human. I’m more human than most.”
Michael’s admission – having enhancements
Michael’s blonde barnet has sparked speculation for years during his Westminster career, but despite many believing it’s a wig, he’s always denied this to be the case. The 74-year-old once conceded that his hair has been a little ‘enhanced’, but never divulged any more detail.
Back in 2014, he told the Mirror: “It’s a lot more complicated than that. OK, all I will admit to is that there is some – but only some – enhancement of the follicular area.” He never said how much or where this “enhancement” had taken place.
The politician recently re-addressed rumours about his Boris-esque locks – and seemed to hint that it may actually be a wig after all. In his VT before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house, he said: “I can show you the receipts, it cost a fortune.”
Although the remark didn’t confirm that he was wearing a wig, it did reveal that he’d spent a lot of money on his hairdo – and that not all of it was natural.
No images exist from his childhood, and all snaps taken throughout his career show him sporting the same hair as he has now.
What fans think of the hair
Michael’s house antics are not the only thing on fans’ minds this series of Big Brother. His hair has been at the centre of social media discourse.
One X user wrote: “Catching up on #CBBUK Absolutely cackling at Patsy asking Michael Fabricant why he wears a wig and him keeping up the pretence that it might not be.” Another added: “I’m catching up on @bbuk and… Michael Fabricant please lose the wig sir.”
A third said: “If Michael Fabricant doesn’t want people to talk about him wearing a wig, perhaps he shouldn’t wear such a ridiculous looking wig, it doesn’t even look remotely real.”
While a fourth noted: “Why don’t they just give his wig its own reality TV show!?”
A fan even went as far as to set up a poll asking viewers whether Michael wore a wig or not. The results show that 91% of viewers believe his hair is indeed fake.
The remaining 9% insist the locks are au naturel.
