Holiday in the Sun star ‘felt wrong’ for Mary-Kate Olsen kiss when she was just 15

Austin Nichols has admitted it felt “weird” and “wrong” kissing Mary-Kate Olsen in ‘Holiday in the Sun’ because he was “too old” for the actress who was 15 at the time

Austin Nichols admits he was too old to kiss Mary-Kate

Austin Nichols has confessed he felt uneasy about sharing a kiss with Mary-Kate Olsen in the 2001 film ‘Holiday in the Sun’.

The 44 year old actor who played Griffen Grayson recalled being “18 or 19, or maybe even 20” at the time, while Mary-Kate, now 38, was just 15 when she played Madison Stewart.

Austin’s discomfort stemmed from the age difference, which made him feel like the kiss was “weird” and “wrong”. In an episode of the ‘Drama Queens’ podcast, he shared: “I was definitely nervous because Mary-Kate was 15, and I was, I think, 18 or 19, or maybe even 20.”

“I don’t remember, but I was too old. And it felt weird, and it felt wrong.”

He added: “I’m real tall and skinny and nerdy, but I don’t think you can tell there’s a big age difference. But from my brain, I was like, ‘She’s 15. This is weird.'”.

Austin’s concerns led him to consult with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s father, David, as well as the film’s producers, to ensure the kiss was acceptable. He recounted: “So, I remember talking to producers, and I remember talking to even her dad was there.”

“And I just wanted everybody to – I was like: ‘Is this OK with you guys?’ And they were all like: ‘Oh, don’t worry about it.’ Nobody seemed concerned. And I was very concerned, but it turned out fine. It was all very G-rated.”

In the film, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took on the roles of two rich teens flying off to the Bahamas with their folks for a swanky winter retreat.

Austin’s character was all about charming Madison, while Ashley’s counterpart tumbled headfirst for the dashing resort employee Jordan Landers, portrayed by Ben Easter.

Ben confessed he was “a little bit nervous because of his age” during the filming. Speaking to E! News in 2021, he said: “I was a little bit nervous because of my age. My manager was like, ‘I think they told the girls you were 16.'”

Without skipping a beat, Ben set the record straight with Ashley, revealing he was nearly 22. Now a photographer, Ben reflected: “We hit it off right off the bat. They could see I was professional, and I wasn’t some creep.”
