Sky News presenter Jacquie Beltrao has taken to social media to share a health update with her fans after undergoing treatment for incurable stage four cancer
Sky News presenter Jacquie Beltrao has opened up about her latest health struggles.
The former news anchor is continuing to battle stage four cancer, a fight she has been enduring for twelve years. The ex-Olympic gymnast hit Twitter to share that she was back in the chemo suite receiving a Zometa bone injection—a treatment she undergoes regularly to protect her bones from cancer.
Jacquie updated her followers saying: “It’s Zometa bone injection day. As usual the nurses in the chemo suite were lovely and I had a snooze in the chair. I’ve got a ‘to-do’ list as long as my arm – I’ve done none of it.”
When one curious follower inquired about the purpose of the treatment, Jacquie explained: “It hardens my bones which were like aero by taking calcium out of the blood – stops cancer spreading in the bones I think is the plan.”
Supporters quickly flooded Jacquie with heartfelt messages. One fan encouraged her: “You take all the time you need. You are awesome,” and another sent their best wishes: “Good luck with your fight and with the list.”
In a nod to World Cancer Day earlier this year, Jacquie reminisced with a hospital photo from 2020. Recounting a period fraught with fear where she doubted her survival, she reflected: “Me in chemo for a 2nd time in 2020.”
“Diagnosed with incurable stage four breast cancer – at the time I thought I was going to die. It was very scary. I’m now in remission which is great but not guaranteed forever,” reports the Mirror.
“So on #worldcancerday I say #dowhatmakesyouhappy. Because you never know if life will throw you the cancer curveball. Big love to anyone going through treatment or a diagnosis right now.”
In response, a heartfelt message from a follower detailed their fight: “My breast cancer returned in my spine after 10 years, in 2023 – stable atm and cherishing every day.”
Another added a note of admiration: “You radiate such positivity.”
Jacquie’s own cancer battle took a shocking turn in 2021 when doctors feared she only had months to survive as the illness spread to her spine and legs. However, she received treatment with olaparib which put her into remission.
The Sky News star spoke about meeting the researcher behind the drug to The Sun: “Seeing Andrew, I was immediately compelled to just give him a massive hug – the bloke saved my life.”
Jacquie gushed over the man and his team, stating: “Without him and his team making it possible for someone with breast cancer like me to take this drug, who knows where I would be now. I certainly wouldn’t be two years cancer free. Andrew is like a superhero to me. It really is a miracle what happened to me. And going to see them made me realise where the miracle happened.”
