Despite being sentenced to jail on fraud charges and grabbing the world’s attention with an incredibly disastrous music festival, Billy McFarland decided to give it another shot
The brains behind the infamous Fyre Festival has unsurprisingly postponed the relaunch of his failed music event. Billy McFarland pleaded guilty to fraud charges following his first attempt at hosting a music festival in 2017.
Ticket-holders, who paid thousands of dollars, were left stranded in the Bahamas with no performing artists, limited shelter and poor food supplies.
The festival was such a disaster that it inspired a Netflix documentary and caught the attention of the world. Despite the destruction of his reputation and spending time in prison, the 33-year-old business man was undeterred and announced Fyre Festival 2 soon after his release.
However, ABC News reported on April 16 that the festival had been postponed. A message sent to ticket holders read: “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced.
“We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.”
X users expressed their concern on the social media platform, as some were let down and others not surprised. One person posted: “Fyre Festival 2 being postponed means dark times are ahead.”
Another person wrote: “Fyre Festival 2 is postponed, no new date set *pretends to be shocked*.” A third person wrote: “Well damn, Fyre Festival 2 is postponed Who saw that coming? I sure didn’t.”
A fourth posted: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you idiots who bought tickets for Fyre Festival 2.”
The festival was to feature a variety of artist. McFarland previously said: “We’re going to have artists across electronic, hip hop, pop and rock. However, it’s not just music.
“We might have a professional skateboarder do a demonstration. We might have an MMA champion teach you techniques in the morning.”
