A Radio 1 star has opened up about one of her most embarrassing career blunders.

Charlie Tee spoke exclusively to us as she gears up for her drum and bass brand Unitee to return under the Nene Flyover in Peterborough for a huge bank holiday weekend event.

When asked if she could you humour us with any embarrassing moments she’s had since fame, she told us about an awkward encounter with Firestone creator Kygo.

She explained: “I interviewed Kygo about 6 years ago and my skirt was back to the front the entire interview and didn’t realise ‘til I’d left, but it explains why he was giggling at me throughout so much.

“And then there’s the standard accidentally pressing pause on the wrong DJ deck and all the music going silent, every DJ has done that at some point and it’s mortifying.”

Radio 1’s Charlie Tee will be taking over the rave hotspot with a killer drum ‘n’ bass bill also featuring Mozey and Kings Of The Rollers, Serum, Voltage and loads more, on Sunday 4th May.

Talking about the event, she shared her excitement and said: “I mean… a rave underneath a motorway bridge that’s fully legal, but gives that authentic free party feel, what’s not to love!

“It’s always such a special energy to host our Unitee parties there with UNDER; the punters energy and excitement is so unique because it’s such a special venue. And to my knowledge, we’re the only D&B event under a motorway bridge in the UK!”

Where would you say is your fave place to play in the world and why?

That’s a big question, there are so many countries I’d still love to play in and tour. But so far, my home city London will always have a special place in my heart.

“I really loved Perth when I was there last year, the energy was so warm and friendly. But if we’re going for a ‘place’ rather than a country, then Boomtown Festival will always win for me.

“It just feels like home. Everyone there is just so passionate about drum and bass, you can feel it in the air and in the crowds, it’s electric and life affirming. I can’t wait to be back there playing on the mainstage this year to 30k people, with a VERY special guest.”

Charlie hosts the drum and bass show on Radio 1 and has been just thrilling listeners with ‘Send it SZN’, where she’s welcomed a string of artists freestyle on air for her series titled the ‘60 Second Send It’.

Talking about this, she added: “It’s essentially a freestyle challenge where we give artists 60 seconds and they have to, well,

send it! And it’s been so much fun. You can watch them on my Instagram or listen back to the shows on BBC Sounds. Past guests include Becky Hill, Aitch, PMoney and Koven to name a few.”

Drum and bass fans can check out Charlie’s Radio show every Saturday night on Radio 1 at 11PM and can also listen back to it on BBC Sounds.
