WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: Freddie Flintoff suffered serious facial injuries in a horror crash on the set of Top Gear in December 2022 and new pictures detailing the wounds have been released
Pictures of Freddie Flintoff’s wounds after his crash on Top Gear have been revealed.
The harrowing details of the incident have been laid bare in his latest documentary, with gory photos showing the aftermath. The ex-England cricket star is pictured looking battered, with blood on his face after the December 2022 incident.
The Disney+ documentary titled ‘Flintoff’ also zooms in on the three-wheeled vehicle involved in the accident, which Freddie was driving for the first time. Surgeon Jahrad Haq, who attended to Flintoff’s injuries, described them as “very complex”.
Freddie sustained a combination of hard and soft tissue damage, broken and lost teeth, and even fractures and displacements in parts of his upper jaw bone.
Mr Haq revealed: “He lost a really significant portion of his upper lip, the skin and some of the underlying muscle, and also his lower lip.”
He went on to say that these injuries ranked in the “top five” for severity throughout his entire medical career, reports the Mirror.
The extent of the injuries was so severe that Freddie’s wife had to hold back tears upon seeing him and cautiously prepared their four children for his appearance. She shared her emotional reaction in the documentary: “When I did see him, I walked in the room, and he was just in the bed, and he was bandaged up.”
“Like his eyes, I’ve never seen someone so scared in their eyes, and he just stared at me. I just think he was looking at me to know how bad he was. So to be fair, I totally pulled myself together and I just didn’t cry. I didn’t, I just said: ‘It’s fine. You’re gonna be okay. I can’t believe how amazing you look’.”
Prior to arriving home, Rachel phoned the kids to explain what to expect: “Before we got home I did call the kids and I did say to them: ‘You’ve just got to be as strong as you’ve ever been. Your dad does look different at the moment. It’s going to get better but I don’t want you to look shocked and horrified, because that’s going to knock him’.”
She continued: “That was hard but Andy [Freddie] doesn’t know I’ve ever done that. I was so grateful to all those people, I still had a husband, the kids still had their dad.”
Freddie recalled: “I looked down and blood was coming down and my biggest fear was I didn’t think I had a face. I thought my face had come off. I was frightened to death.” The car’s state post-accident can be seen in the Disney+ documentary.
He described the vehicle: “It were a three wheeler, a reinforcement windscreen and a bar covering half me back. So I’m exposed.”
