Kneecap dropped from major festival slot after controversial ‘kill MPs’ remark

Rap group Kneecap, Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí who use the stage names of Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and J. J. Ó Dochartaigh, have been removed from a major UK festival

Irish rap group Kneecap have been dropped from a major festival lineup.

The trio were set to perform at Eden Project’s Eden Sessions in July, but a statement from a spokesperson recently announced that they will no longer be attending.

An Eden Sessions spokesperson said: “Eden Sessions Limited announced today that the Kneecap show at Eden Project scheduled for July 4 2025 has been cancelled. Ticket purchasers will be contacted directly and will be fully refunded.”

“The refund process will commence from Wednesday, April 30 2025. Refunds will be processed against the original payment cards used. Purchasers should allow six working days for funds to be received into their accounts.”

The news comes after a member of the group allegedly declared: “The only good Tory is a dead Tory” and: “Kill your local MP” at a gig.

Officers from the Met have confirmed they’re having a look at the footage, which includes another clip from 2024. One of the men appeared to cheer on the crowd with “up Hamas, up Hezbollah.”

According to The Telegraph, officials are working through the videos to see if any terror laws have been breached.

One of the members of Kneecap allegedly said: “We’re still under British occupation in Ireland. We still have old men in London making decisions that affect my life in Ireland.”

“And even worse, they’re f****** Tories. The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: “We were made aware of a video on 22 April, believed to be from an event in November 2024, and it has been referred to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit for assessment and to determine whether any further police investigation may be required.”

“We have also been made aware of another video believed to be from an event in November 2023.”

Kneecap recently released a statement saying that they reject “any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual. Ever.”

The group also said “an extract of footage, deliberately taken out of all context, is now being exploited and weaponised, as if it were a call to action”.

They also apologised to the families of murdered MPs including Jo Cox and Sir David Amess’ loved ones: “To the Amess and Cox families, we send our heartfelt apologies, we never intended to cause you hurt.”

The rap group also recently faced backlash after closing their Coachella set with messages that allegedly accused Israel of committing genocide and war crimes in Gaza.
