After an illustrious 57-year career with Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne has decided to hang up his fedora, and has begun making plans for his next steps with wife Sharon
Rocker Ozzy Osbourne says he wants to open a dog rescue centre when he officially retires as the Prince of Darkness.
The Black Sabbath lead singer, who once bit the head off a bat on stage, confessed that he needed something ‘to do’ when he gives up rocking. The 76-year-old has Parkinson’s disease and a spinal injury, worsened by a botched surgery in 1993.
The band’s final ever gig – Back to the Beginning – will take place on the 5th July at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham. The gig will see the original four members of Black Sabbath reband to raise money for Parkinson’s and children’s charities.
Ozzy said that after the show, he planned on living out his well-earned retirement with wife, Sharon Osbourne at their seven-bed Buckinghamshire mansion. The couple bought the Grade II-listed Welders House mansion in 1993, boasting seven acres of grounds, a pool, spa and two cabins.
Ozzy said Sharon could see her husband was depressed over the looming end of his career. The 72-year-old then had the bright idea of opening a dog rescue centre at their home.
Ozzy said: “Sharon could see I was in Doom Town, and she said to me ‘I’ve got an idea…I want to get some ponies, chickens, a million dogs’.”
Asked if this was now the plan, Ozzy said: “Yeah. Get some ponies and chickens, and a million dogs.
“I want to open a dog rescue centre and a horse rescue centre.”
The War Pigs singer said he knew it was time to retire, adding: “I’d love to say ‘never say never’, but after the last six years or so it is time (to retire). I lived on the road for 50-odd years.”
He added: “I don’t smoke dope or do any of the rock star lifestyle any more.
“I’m kind of like a homebody. I never go out. I never hang out in bars – I don’t drink.”
