Kelly Preston tragically died at the age of 57 in 2020 after a battle with breast cancer. Grease icon John Travolta has honoured her on Mother’s Day in the US
John Travolta has honoured his late wife Kelly Preston in a sweet throwback family photo.
The Grease icon’s wife died at the age of 57 in 2020 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The couple had been married since 1991, and shared three children, however their son Jett also died in 2009 after suffering a seizure.
Over the weekend, the US celebrated Mother’s Day, and John shared a throwback snap of his family to mark it. It featured him hugged up closely to Kelly, while their daughter Ella Bleu and Benjamin stood with them.
The 71-year-old wrote in the caption: “Happy Mother’s Day Kelly! You did a great job! We love you!”
Daughter Ella Bleu, who is also an actress and a model, commented with a string of heart emojis.
Rita Wilson, actress, singer and wife of Tom Hanks, commented: “One of the best mothers. So kind so loving so funny.”
Before being married to John, Kelly tied the knot with actor Kevin Gage in 1985, though they divorced in 1987. She was also in a relationship with George Clooney, before marrying John in 1991.
They had met in 1987 while filming movie The Experts. However in between then and getting together, Kelly was engaged to Charlie Sheen.
They split up not long after though, after an accidental gun discharge left her with shrapnel in her body. According to a 2011 interview with TMZ, she was adamant that Charlie had not shot her.
She and John welcomed their son Jett in 1992. It’s reported that he had Kawasaki disease as a small child, as well as seizures.
Both scientologists, Kelly and John claimed the Scientology method Purification Rundown, a detoxification process, helped Jett.
He died of a seizure at the age of 16 while the family was on holiday in the Bahamas. Jett tragically hit his head on a bath and was found unresponsive.
His health conditions, which also included autism, were revealed after his death. It’s thought Scientology does not recognise autism, so John’s acknowledgement of his son’s condition after his death raised eyebrows.
But at the time, Scientology International representative Tommy Davis denied it, saying: “The Church of Scientology has no position on autism. As with any medical condition, the Church believes that these matters are best diagnosed and treated by medical doctor.”
Then, 11 years later, Kelly died at the age of 57, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer – again, her diagnosis was not publicised.
