A legend of The Simpsons series has sadly died.

Steve Pepoon was 68 when he died outside his home in Paola, Kansas on 3 May and his wife Mary Stephenson confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. The writer had been in treatment for cardiac amyloidosis for two years prior to his passing.

Pepoon won an Emmy Award for The Simpsons’ season two episode 13, titled Homer Vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment, which originally aired on 7 February 1991.

The episode followed Homer as he attempted to get an illegal cable TV hookup, but Lisa protested by pointing out that he was breaking the 8th Commandment – “Thou shall not steal.”

Steve’s death was confirmed by his wife

Back in 2016, Pepoon discussed his Emmy nomination 25 years prior and said: “For whatever reason they chose my episode.”

Steve also co-created Nickelodeon’s The Wild Thornberrys and worked on ALF, It’s Gary Shandling’s Show and Roseanne.

He graduated from Kansas State University back in 1978 and moved to LA to start his writing career before landing a gig on ALF.

After the sad news broke, animation fans took to Twitter/X to pay tribute to the legendary writer as posts about Steve began to flood the site.

Elsewhere in The Simpsons news, the show has been confirmed for another four more seasons after an announcement last month.

Fox revealed that the new seasons are a “pact” with Disney TV Studios branded a “meganimation deal”.
