EastEnders star Danny Dyer reveals he’s finally ditched the drink in favour of playing with toy bricks after years of being ‘off his nut’, even building a Hogwarts replica for mindfulness
TV hard man Danny Dyer has swapped caning it to bricking it… with Lego. The star admitted he was ’off his nut’ on prescription drugs and booze while filming the much loved soap EastEnders.
But following a stint in rehab and a plea from his daughter Dani, 28, he finally got his act together. Now The Football Factory star has admitted he has switched the bottle for plastic bricks and the terraces for mindfulness.
The 47-year-old Bentley driving star of hit TV show Rivals now wants to build a huge model of a classic Star Wars spaceship. He said: “I am quite obsessed with Lego now.
“A Lego of the Millennium Falcon would be my luxury item. I am sure it has about six or seven thousand pieces I am quite good with mindfulness and I need that.
“I built a Lego Hogwarts once. I thoroughly enjoyed it but once it’s built you don’t know where to put it. Where does it sit?”
The classic Star Wars craft, flown by Harrison Ford’s Hans Solo, has 7,541 pieces and costs £734. He added: “This is my dream one. I love Star. Wars and the Millennium Falcon and I think it would take me a long time to build.”
Dyer joined the cast of EastEnders in 2013 as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter but he turned to booze and drug-taking to cope.
He went into rehab in South Africa in 2017 and was close to quitting the facility until a letter from home made him reflect on the pain he’d caused his family.
He said: “I had a moment where my ego started to rise again and I’d had enough.
“Then they read a letter out from my daughter, my Dani, and it made me sit back down in that seat pretty lively.’
