Eurovision chaos as security stop stage invader storming Israel’s performance

Eurovision security were reportedly forced to stop two protestors from storming the 2025 final stage while Israeli singer Yuval Raphael sang to represent her country

Eurovision security were on high alert during the 2025 final.

Yuval Raphael took to the stage to perform as Israel’s entry when two people reportedly tried to storm the stage. One person was allegedly heard shouting the words: “Free Palestine” as they were stopped from crashing Raphael’s performance of New Day Will Rise by the Eurovision security.

A protestor also allegedly sprayed paint at the security guards. No-one managed to reach the stage.

Witness Liav Illoz alleged that the two people “began to shout and even climb over the railing” while “spraying red paint on everyone around them,” but they were “immediately stopped by security”.

A spokesman for Basel police said: “The organiser handed the two people over to the police. The police checked the two people and then released them. It is now up to the organiser to decide whether to press charges.”

Despite not being in Europe, Israel took part in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest as their country’s television service was previously established under the guidance of European experts, including BBC’s Stuart Hood.

The country is also a member of the European Broadcasting Union.

Later, Youth Demand claimed responsibility, saying three Brit protestors had been removed from the St Jakobshalle arena.

A spokesman for Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR said: “At the end of the Israeli performance a man and a woman tried to get over a barrier on to the stage. They were stopped. One of the two agitators threw paint and a crew member was hit.

“The crew member is fine and nobody was injured. The man and the woman were taken out of the venue and handed over to the police.”
