A rock star and his talent agent have died following a worrying post shared on Instagram.
Devil Wears Prada ex-drummer Daniel Williams and talent agent Dave Shapiro died in a plane crash hours after an eerie post was shared from an airport.
The small private plane crashed into a residential street in San Diego on Thursday morning, smashing homes and igniting cars in a neighborhood of military families. Following the crash, around 100 people were evacuated from nearby areas.
Members of Williams’ former band, Devil Wears Prada, confirmed his tragic death by posting a heart emoji on their Instagram late this afternoon.
They said: “No words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.”
The death of David Shapiro, 42, has this afternoon been confirmed by his talent agency, Sound Talent Group (STG).
A spokesperson for STG said: “We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends. Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today’s tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time.”
Just hours prior to the disastrous event, the 39 year old rock star shared a snap of himself behind the aircraft’s controls claiming he was “co-pilot now” in a message that left fans questioning if he was joking.
Prior to departure, Williams posted a photo of the plane, captioning it: “Flying back with @davevelocity”. He followed this with a picture of himself in the cockpit, accompanied by the message: “Hey. Hey…you…look at me….I’m the (co)pilot now,” playing on the famous line from the film Captain Phillips.
Earlier on, he had captioned another upload with an anticipatory message: “‘Here we gooooo.” The picture appeared to show him in the cockpit behind the airplane controls.
The small plane was a Cessna 550 aircraft, which took off from New Jersey and stopped for fuel in Wichita, Kansas, before it continued to California and plummeted about two miles (3 km) from San Diego’s Montgomery-Gibbs Executive airport.
Two people have so far been reported dead by authorities.
The fiery crash, which happened before 4 am today, set 15 homes and several cars ablaze.
Eight others were injured when the plane plunged from the sky and crashed into military housing in heavy fog.
KFMB-TV reported: “We have some information about who the plane is registered to.
“It’s to a man named David Shapiro, who owns a music industry booking agency. We’re told he owns several planes. But at this point we have not confirmed that he was the one piloting this plane.”
