The Hills icon Heidi Montag’s transformation with 10 surgeries in one day and new career

Heidi Montag burst onto screens on The Hills almost 20 years ago, starting as a fresh-faced college girl before undergoing an enormous transformation under the knife

The Hills legend Heidi Montag is completely unrecognisable from her days on the MTV show. She burst onto screens alongside Lauren Conrad in 2006 before meeting husband Spencer Pratt and becoming somewhat of a villain.

The blonde bombshell started on the show as a fresh-faced college girl, just moving to LA with her pal Lauren so she could attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. She was also working at Bolthouse Productions, a company which planned swanky events.

Now 38, Heidi’s journey on The Hills was controversial, and before long her friendship with Lauren was over. She started dating Spencer, and the two of them took Lauren on throughout the series.

They tied the knot in April 2009 and Lauren made a surprise appearance, despite their failed friendship. Heidi recently said that she would be “willing to move forward and put things behind” them, but Lauren “holds grudges”.

It wasn’t just Heidi’s battle with Lauren which dominated headlines at the time, though.

Before the final season of The Hills, in 2010, Heidi underwent a whopping 10 plastic surgeries in one day while she was just 23 years old.

The procedures included a chin reduction, liposuction, a breast augmentation, a brow lift, a rhinoplasty revision, facial fat injections, and ear-pinning. She also had a bum augmentation and the less invasive Botox.

The transformation was dramatic, and the fall-out even bigger.

In the first episode of the sixth season, Heidi met with her mum Darlene, however she was not impressed with the results of her surgeries.

Heidi was left distraught, saying: “You act like I have a new face or something.” Her mum replied: “Well, that’s pretty much what it is. It takes a little getting used to. It’s very weird and very awkward. I’m sorry.”

She said she thought Heidi wanted to look like Barbie, with Heidi admitting: “I do want to look like Barbie.”

The blonde beauty then asked her mum if she thought she looked good, but it then got awkward. Darlene said: “How do I go and say that of course I thought you were more beautiful before? I thought you were younger, I thought you were fresher-looking, I thought you were healthier.

“What’s done is done, so that’s a terrible thing for me to say but, yes, that’s how I feel. I felt that you were much more beautiful before and I hope that some of this will fade away.”

Heidi didn’t speak to her mum for around two years after that awkward interaction.

In the years that followed, Heidi appeared on a number of other reality shows, including Celebrity Big Brother in the UK twice. She has also launched a pop music career, which saw a resurgence in recent months.

This January, 10 years after it was released, her album Superficial hit the No1 spot on iTunes in countries including the US, Australia, Canada, Sweden and even Oman.

She was then confirmed to be performing at pop music festival Mighty Hoopla in London’s Brockwell Park this weekend. She is set to play the main stage on Sunday, June 1, followed by Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne, iconic singer Lulu, Eurovision double winner Loreen and headliner Kesha.
