Chris Watson helped keep daughter Emma grounded when she was case as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, and now has some advice for the new kids taking on the iconic roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione
Emma Watson’s dad worked hard to stop her becoming bewitched by fame after she was cast in Harry Potter – and always made her do her homework.
Chris Watson has sent a stark warning to other parents with children in showbusiness, saying it can be a very “difficult” time.
His daughter made £60m playing the dazzling young witch Hermione Granger from JK Rowling’s epic story series for 10 years.
Now HBO have announced the names of their new telly series cast, with Dominic McLaughlin landing the lead, Arabella Stanton to be Hermione and Alastair Stout cast as Ron Weasley.
Lawyer Chris said: “As a parent, you have to be scared. This can be a very difficult thing for a parent and child to handle, or not.
“It helped that I don’t actually watch movies. It’s not a big thing in the house, so it was easier for us to keep her feet on the ground.”
Emma became one of the most well-known young stars of her age but her dad always made sure she stayed grounded.
He added: “Normal life continued as far as possible. Her homework would go back to school on motorbikes, admittedly, but she had to do her homework.”
His tactics paid off as Emma is now studying at Oxford and was spotted in a university rowing competition recently. Former Game of Thrones child star Isaac Hempstead Wright also offered up some advice to the new Harry Potter stars.
He instructed them to “enjoy every minute of it” and ”take every opportunity it affords” them.
The actor added: “I can go to any country in the world and there will be someone there who’s pleased to see me. You go to some little bar in Madrid or wherever, and somebody will want to strike up a chat with you.
“It’s made the world a much smaller place.”
The new Harry Potter series is set for release in 2027 and will reportedly be far more in depth than the films, with each season covering one book.
