Status Quo had 60 UK chart hits – more than any other band – including Caroline, In The Army Now, and Rocking All Over The World with which they opened Live Aid in 1985
Status Quo are unlikely to ever tour again, lead singer Francis Rossi has announced.
The 76-year-old, who co-founded the band in 1962, says they can’t compete with Mick Jagger who is far more “fit” than them.
Status Quo had 60 UK chart hits – more than any other band – including Caroline, In The Army Now, and Rocking All Over The World with which they opened Live Aid in 1985.
Francis, currently on a solo tour, told Greatest Hits Radio: “One of the reasons I want to do more of these is because it is less taxing.
“There’s a certain amount of enjoyment I get because I can waffle and don’t have the guys standing around waiting thinking ‘Will you get on with it!’.
“That’s not putting Status Quo down, but I can’t see that we will go again.
“People have said to me ‘Well, The Rolling Stones still do it, their energy and stuff.’
“I say ‘Well no, Mick Jagger still does the energy stuff.’ He’s much fitter than I am and more diligent with his regime, his training and whatever else.”
Francis said he hopes to “go on and do this for a while” and has made sure he eats well and goes to the gym as gigging takes its toll.
He added: “I’ve had to be that way for some years to the point of boring the pants off people.”
