Singer Jessie J has shared another update on her health after revealing on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with “early breast cancer” and will undergo surgery after her performance at this month’s Summertime Ball
Jessie J has bravely opened up about her health struggles, after revealing she’s been diagnosed with “early breast cancer” and is set to have surgery following her gig at this month’s Summertime Ball. The 37-year-old Price Tag hitmaker took to Instagram to share the news with her followers, saying she’s been in and out of hospital for tests.
The mum-of-one announced: “I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” as she addressed her fans in a heartfelt video. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”
She quipped about her upcoming surgery: “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t*** and more music.”
Jessie, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, has since given another update to her worried supporters, reports the Mirror.
The beloved vocalist posted a clip from her performance at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club on Instagram, explaining that despite being in discomfort from recent breast biopsies, she didn’t want to cancel and disappoint her fans. In the footage, Jessie confessed: “I had five breast biopsies the night before this show. I was in some discomfort but so hyped to do it and I didn’t want to cancel.”
Reflecting on her resilience, she added: “The more I watch this show back I can see my brain working in complete overdrive trying not to blurt it all out. Laughing and making jokes in hard times [handshake emoji] me. And I am in-fact under your bed.”
During her pared-down performance, Jessie posed a question to the crowd: “Anyone here from Joe and The Juice? On my first album, Who You Are, I know a lot of people called it Who Are You, which completely changed the meaning. Who are you? Where have you been? Pet peeve – people asking me, ‘Where have you been?’ Where the f**k have you been?’
“Being truthful in who you are – not your mates or your family or everyone else, but like what you love and who you are. What makes you special. That’s all I wanna focus on. And my huge, perfect t***. You know what I mean?”
As she neared the end of her performance, the singer admitted she was in considerable pain, but insisted she wouldn’t let it interfere with her passion. She quipped: “I don’t know why I’m w****** off the mic. Okay, it’s time for me to end this set because I’m getting too wild.”
On Wednesday, Jessie revealed that she went public with her diagnosis to help her come to terms with the news, and to stand in solidarity with others facing similar challenges. “I just wanted to be open and share it,” she stated.
“One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard.
“I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse-that’s the bit that kills me.”
She went on to say: “The timing of it has been mad but also beautiful and given me this incredible perspective in this time.
“But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug. You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different,” she concluded.
Jessie captioned her heartfelt video: “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’? All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times).
“This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive t***. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking.”
Jessie is a proud mum to her son Sky Safir Cornish Colman, who she welcomed into the world in 2023 after experiencing the heartache of a miscarriage in November 2021. Throughout her life, Jessie has faced numerous health challenges; she was diagnosed with a cardiac condition at the age of eight, suffered a minor stroke at 18, and temporarily lost her hearing in 2020.
