Netflix’s Squid Game to have most ‘brutal scenes yet’ that will ‘horrify viewers’

Squid Game is set to shock viewers when it returns for its final series later this month. The opening episode will see players compete in a game of hide and seek that has been given a warped twist

Squid Game will have some brutal parts in the final scene

The new series of Squid Game is set to feature its most shocking game yet. In the opening episode, players are tasked with competing in a game of hide and seek. But in a sick twist, one half of the group has to kill the others to progress.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk dreamed up the storyline to make the series gripping for viewers. He said: “I can’t figure out how I come up with things. I just start writing the script and it’s there.”

It’s the latest children’s game to be given a warped twist for the show. The series will also feature an all-new one as part of the finale.

Hwang said: “The last game of season three is something that doesn’t exist. It’s something I created as a game that I thought would be the best fit for the finale of Squid Game.”

This series will mark the end of the drama after four years and Hwang is convinced he has penned an ending that will be TV gold.

He said: “When I started writing the second season, I thought it would go to five seasons. All those great series have at least five seasons like Game of Thrones. But while writing it, I realised it has to end. I came up with the best ending for the show. You’ll see what it is when you watch it.”

The series will stream on Netflix from June 27 and there are no plans for a fourth run.

Hwang said: “The story that I both wanted to tell and that I am capable of telling through Gi-hun, it has been told with season three.

“Honestly, when I was first working on the first season, I didn’t have any plans or thoughts about there ever being further seasons. In Korea, it’s not very common for series to have multiple seasons, and also because season one was so incredibly demanding.”

But Hwang has teased Squid Game may not be over for good as there could be a follow-up show.

He said: “If opportunity allowed, I am thinking that maybe I could do a spin-off in the Squid Game universe.

“Because sometimes, you know, as I create it and write it, I get curious myself… what were these characters up to during the years or what were these people doing?

“So, that’s the reason I want to explore that. So I do have an idea of doing a spin-off or a prequel. I can’t wait until we get to see that.”
