Ruth Jones and husband David Peet have announced they are separated.
The couple, who married in 1999, are legally separated but “remain good friends”. Ruth and David issued a statement and told PA news agency: “We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends.”
“Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.”
TV fans know Ruth as Nessa Jenkins from the iconic British sitcom Gavin and Stacey, which first aired back in 2007. She appeared in three series and three Christmas specials, with the finale episode airing on Christmas Day 2024. The plot followed Nessa and Smithy’s wedding day.

At the 2025 Baftas, Ruth took home a well-deserved award for best female performance in a comedy role for her portrayal of Nessa.

While accepting her award she said: “I’m not gonna lie, this is immense. I didn’t expect to win this. I’ve won a Bafta before, of course I have, in 1976.”
“I’ve had a 17-year journey with this character, which is quite a rare thing, I guess, and to have worked with the people I’ve worked with on the show over this period of time — the cast, the crew, the production team — everybody’s just been such a joy to work with.”

“I think it’s just been a really lovely rounding up of this astonishing nearly 20 years and working with James. I love working with James Corden, I really do. And I hope that we will carry on working together. I think we will. We will, because we just both like sitting in a room together. We do a lot of napping, but we do write as well when we get going. And, yeah, I just love, love working with him.”
Aside from Gavin and Stacey, Ruth has also appeared in Fat Friends, Little Britain, Saxondale and Nighty Night.
David’s IMDb page says he was an executive producer for two episodes of Gavin and Stacey and has previously worked on Stella, Borderlines and The Great Outdoors.
