Actor Eric Idle has been taken to hospital twice in just 72 hours.

The 82-year-old actor found fame in the 1907s with the legendary Monty Python comic troupe – their iconic sketch show Flying Circus aired from 1969 until 1974. Idle reckons he’s suffering from Gastroenteritis and worried fans have rushed to send him their best wishes.

The comedy legend who worked with the likes of John Cleese and Michael Palin was grateful to the medical staff at at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles for taking such good care of him. On Monday (June 16) the comedy star wrote: “So I’d like to thank all the doctors nurses and staff in the Cedars GI ward for their kindness and help to me today.

“The second time in three days. I think I’m suffering from Gastroenteritis. I love you people.”

The NHS website says Gastroenteritis is an unpleasant condition causing inflammation of the stomach and intestines, often due to viral or bacterial infection. It can cause vomiting and diarrhea as well as a high temperature and disorientation.

Eric has been open about his battle with pancreatic cancer. He revealed his diagnosis in 2019 and shared that he had undergone surgery for it after detecting it early.

Last year, he admitted that he “shouldn’t be alive” after surviving the cancer and now cherished “every moment” of his life. When asked how his cancer diagnosis hanged him, he responded: “Oh, I shouldn’t be alive. I’m a lucky b****** and I enjoy every moment.”

The star admitted he initially thought the diagnosis was a joke after an exchange with his doctor, partly because he happened to be working on a project about death.

He explained: “I had been working on a project called ‘Death: The Musical’ and I asked my doctor which type of cancer I could use to finish off one of my characters. He said, ‘Pancreatic cancer, it can finish people off in three weeks.'”.

An alarming blood test was flagged by the same doctor years later during a health screening. Eric shared: “He said, ‘Pancreatic cancer’ and I burst out laughing because I thought he must be joking.”

The Monty Python troupe, known as the Pythons, consisted of members John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gillam.
