BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was reportedly hauled in by broadcasting bosses over two incidents and reportedly used a slang term for a sex act at Radio 5 Live
Naga Munchetty has been accused of bullying a female colleague at BBC Breakfast and making an off-air sex joke.
The 50-year-old presenter hosts the BBC One flagship show from Thursday to Saturday with Charlie Stayt. She also hosts a mid-morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live from Monday to Wednesday.
Naga was reportedly spoken to by BBC bosses over two incidents in three years, including a claim that she bullied a female colleague. She is also alleged to have used a slang term for a sex act during an off-air break at Radio 5 Live in 2022.
It’s said she asked a colleague at the station if they had done the sex act and left the studio “stunned”. According to The Sun, she was spoken to about the incident but no formal action was taken, with one source describing it as “crass, inappropriate and wildly unprofessional.”
It’s reported she was also rapped for the alleged bullying of a woman – a junior staffer – and falsely accused her of stealing. A source told the outlet: “It was humiliating. There was no evidence, no apology. The woman left not long after, completely demoralised.”
The BBC is reportedly carrying out an internal probe into allegations of bullying. Deadline reports the broadcaster has appointed a consultant from the consultancy firm PwC to review the culture at the BBC One programme.
It’s said the BBC is facing questions of double standards, with a Breakfast insider claiming: “If a male presenter made a sexual comment like that or falsely accused someone of theft, he’d be out the door. But with Naga, it gets brushed off.”
Daily Star has contacted Naga Munchetty’s representatives for comment. Asked about Naga, BBC spokesperson said: “While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.”
On BBC Breakfast, a BBC spokesperson said: “While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values. We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.”
BBC Breakfast editor Richard Frediani has also faced claims of misconduct. Deadline has reported he has been the subject of at least two misconduct complaints since he took over the Salford-based BBC One show in 2019.
He’s accused of physically shaking a lower-ranking female editor in the newsroom in 2024. He’s also faced claims of shouting and swearing at colleagues, and it’s reported Munchetty raised concerns about his conduct.
The broadcasting boss has taken an extended period of leave following the allegations about his behaviour. Daily Star has also contacted Mr Frediani for comment.
