Jonathan Bailey, who plays the role of Anthony Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, has joined forces with MARTINI to inspire Brits to break from their regular routine
A recent study found that many adults feel they’re too predictable in their choices, from what they eat and wear to where they go on holiday. The survey, which polled 8,000 adults across Europe, revealed that one-third feel pressure to follow trends.
What’s more, many claimed that their friends and the people they follow on social media also feel compelled to keep up with the latest trends, whether it’s travel, fashion, or lifestyle choices. The influence of social media platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok is significant, with 54% admitting that their personal choices are swayed by what’s trending online.
Aperitivo brand MARTINI, which commissioned the research, has teamed up with Jonathan Bailey to encourage people to break free from routine and be more spontaneous.
The Laurence Olivier Award winner, who is this summer’s ‘MARTINI MAN’ said: “Going off script is the ultimate way to allow space for fun, and new experiences. Unplanned moments end up being the most unforgettable.”
The majority of people expressed a desire to break away from trend-following and be more spontaneous, with 66 per cent believing that being intentionally spontaneous is a positive trait as it is a key way to show off their individuality.
A third want to do something unique, have fun or be more playful, and avoid repetition in their lives.
The majority also believe not conforming to trends helps them feel more in control of their lives as they’re choosing what to do rather than being swayed by others.
Other top motivations for avoiding trends include curiosity, a desire for new experiences, and to learn something new about themselves.
The research shows that people in the UK and Spain feel their daily decisions are more predictable than those in any other nation surveyed. Meanwhile, those in Poland feel the squeeze to conform more than anyone else in the study.
Jonathan added: “This summer, I invite everyone to take a breath, dive in, swerve off-piste and be playful. Live a little differently.”
