Glastonbury’s ‘nightmare’ opening ceremony ‘flopped’ due to one major ‘failure’

Glastonbury Festival 2025’s opening ceremony has been branded a ‘flop’ by disappointed attendees who all complained about one very important thing that let the performance down

Glastonbury Festival-goers are all complaining about one key part of the opening ceremony.

The performance has been labelled a ‘flop’ and a ‘nightmare’ by disgruntled attendees, who were left disappointed when there was ‘no sound’ emanating from the speakers during the eagerly awaited opening ceremony at the Pyramid Stage, leading to a ‘restless’ crowd.

Frustrated attendees took to social media to tag the official Glasto page on X/Twitter and question what was going wrong during the ’embarrassing’ set. One user vented: “This #Glastonbury opening ceremony is embarrassing as f***,” while another queried: “Is there meant to be no sound at the #Glastonbury2025 opening ceremony? Local regs? Crowds a bit restless at the back #Glastonbury.”

One fan tweeted: “@glastonbury guessing you do know the speakers on Pyramid aren’t working tonight for the opening ceremony? Real shame, so much potential for an awesome night.”

“Glastonbury opening ceremony was a nightmare,” another festival-goer complained. One wrote: “Not good from a sound standpoint. I think you have let the performers down here to say the least.”

The festival is the largest in the UK, boasting over 3,000 performances across more than 100 stages during the five-day event. The site on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, spans over 900 acres and security has only ramped up over the years, reports the Mirror.

The site is encircled by a 7.8km fence that stands four metres tall, with watchtowers at various points and security personnel vigilantly monitoring the festival grounds both inside and out.

Security measures are believed to have been ramped up this year following reports of thousands sneaking into last year’s festival using counterfeit wristbands or by scaling the fences.

The situation escalated to such an extent that some stages had to be shut down due to overcrowding. Anyone caught trying to gain entry without a valid ticket could find themselves detained in the ‘on-set jail’.

The so-called ‘Glastonbury Jail’ serves as an official holding area prior to eviction from the site or until the police arrive. While it isn’t technically a prison, many refer to it as such.

One individual apprehended last year spoke to The Times about the ‘jail’, describing it as: “The jail is a square with security fences surrounding it, a covered area for sitting and foil blankets which people were taking to sleep in.”
