Scottish star Lewis Capaldi drops new song Survive which he will debut live at Glastonbury Festival today. The track addresses his mental health two years after he cut short an emotional Glasto set.
LEWIS CAPALDI is ready to face his demons at Glastonbury Festival with the help of an empowering new anthem.
The record-breaking Scot returns with Survive, a brand new track he’s expected to perform live for the first time on Glasto’s Pyramid stage today.
Survive, out now, addresses the star’s mental health challenges of self-doubt and despair as he croons: “Most nights I fear that I’m not enough.” However, Lewis pulls through to holler a classic defiant chorus: “I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kills me to, I’m gonna’ get up and try, if it’s the last thing I’ll do”.
It’s not only an inspirational song, but a seriously brave move to go back to Glastonbury Festival two years after his very public wobble.
Clearly struggling, in 2023 Lewis cut short an emotional set with the crowd helping him finish sing Someone You Loved.
Lewis has barely been seen since as he needed to “spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order”.
Survive, co-written with Romans (Somebody You Loved), is the sound of an artist not just surviving but ready to take a big step forward in their career. Can’t wait to hear what’s next.
Although not officially confirmed Lewis is expected to the TBA artist on Glasto’s Pyramid stage at 16.55 for a 35 minute set today.
The new track arrives off the back of a run of Scottish warm up shows in May that saw Lewis return to the stage as a guest of mental health charity CALM, in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week. With no pressure, and no level of expectation, the shows allowed Capaldi the space to gauge his comfort and emotional response before returning to the spotlight – a move which ended up proving nothing short of a triumph.
Lewis’ last release, the hit-stacked record Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, scored him his second UK number 1 album, creating another three heartbreaking UK No 1 singles, ‘Pointless’, ‘Wish You The Best’ and the Platinum-certified ‘Forget Me’, working with hitmakers including Max Martin (Taylor Swift, The Weeknd), Malay (Lorde, Frank Ocean), and longtime collaborator Phil Plested (James Bay, Bastille).
