A Bollywood movie star who shot to fame in music videos has died aged just 42.

Shefali Jariwala became a major Bollywood star in her native India, starring in a host of well-known films and TV shows. Her family have been left heartbroken and have offered touching tributes to her as the world grieves her sudden loss.

The actress first shot to fame for her iconic appearance in a music video for the song “Kaanta Laga”, which was first released in 2002. The video catapulted Shefali into her career, going on to star in one of the biggest shows in India – Bigg Boss, the country’s spin-off of Big Brother.

Jariwala is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday (June 26), according to the Mirror. The actress was then rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in her hometown of Mumbai, but died a short time later.

As of yet, no official statement has been released by Shefali’s family regarding her death. However, many friends and family members – as well as many Bollywood fans – rushed to social media to share in their shock and sorrow at Shefali’s sudden passing.

Our beloved star and my dearest friend has left us; still can’t believe it – you will always be remembered for your grace, smile, and spirit.”

Other fans of Shefali were left equally as bereft as they shared their condolences on social media. One devastated user wrote: “Just saw the news of Shefali Jariwala; life’s so uncertain, may her soul rest in peace.” Whilst a second fan urged many to use her death to look after their own health.

“Gone too soon,” they wrote, “Shefali Jariwala’s sudden passing is a heartbreaking reminder that even a fit body can’t always guard against silent killers like cardiac arrest. Health is so much more than just what we eat or how often we hit the gym stress, genetics, and hidden conditions matter too. Stay aware. Listen to your body.”

Jirawala was particularly popular on social media herself, with her last post being uploaded just three days ago. In the carousel, she was seen wearing a host of different outfits after a photoshoot, with the caption: “Bling it on baby!”
