Ex-Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall took to the Glastonbury stage for the first time, but while many were seen living up the setlist, some BBC viewers were stunned during the show
Some BBC viewers were left aghast after Jade Thirwall performed her Glastonbury set.
The former Little Mix star joined the line-up for the iconic music festival after launching her solo music career, drawing huge crowds to the stage at Worthy Farm in Somerset. During the set, she performed some of her biggest hits, including chart-topper “Angel of My Dreams”, as fans were seen living it up to the songstress’ tracks.
But during one particular moment during her debut at the legendary music festival, some viewers watching the set at home were rendered speechless. This came after the musician used the moment to swear live on TV while her set was being streamed.
Jade, 32, used her Glastonbury set to pay tribute to her former Little Mix co-stars. In the loving message to the other members, Jade said she was so happy for the girls as they helped to change her life, but was very grateful to be working on her own solo stuff now.
As the songstress wowed the crowds on the Woodsies stage, Jade performed several of her own tracks, as well as some of her more well-known songs from her time in Little Mix. Gearing up for the release of her debut album – “That’s Showbiz Baby!”, Jade showed off the songs that had been publicly released.
However, viewers were soon stunned as she performed one particular track with a very vulgar word. Whilst singing together with Aussie electropop collective Confidence Man for their song “Gossip”, Jade – who features on the song – uttered the word “c***”, according to the Mirror.
Viewers watching the set on the BBC were quick to give their reaction to the huge moment, as the word is considered one of the worst profanities in English. Taking to their social media, many used the opportunity to praise Jade for breaking the rules of the BBC’s strict editorial policy.
“Jade said ‘****’ live on the BBC and it’s not even 4pm; icons only,” one loving fan beamed as they penned. A second user went on to say: “Jade dropping the word ‘****’ at 15:52 on a sunny summer afternoon at Glasto? Like I said, ICON!”
A third music fan chimed in: “Jade dropping the word ‘****’ was not on bingo card.” While a fourth added: “This year’s #Glastonbury catchphrase is definitely ‘Tina thinks you’re a ****.'” – a reference to the lyrics of the song.
During her set, the BBC iPlayer – which is streaming many of this year’s acts – prefaced her set. Ahead of her first song, the broadcaster issued a warning that said: “Contains very strong language and flashing images.”
The set proved to be a major win for Jade, who became emotional as she gave a touching tribute to fellow bandmates Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Fighting back tears, Jade beamed with pride as she explained her reasons for welling up.
“Firstly, shout out to Little Mix,” she said, “I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am to those girls for literally changing my life and who would have thought then that we would have a Little Mix girlie up here on the Glastonbury stage. But I can’t lie, it feels good doing my own songs that I’ve written from my heart.”
