Sir Rod Stewart took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury on Sunday, walking out to a chorus of bagpipes as the crowd went wild in their lookalike costumes
Sir Rod Stewart launched into a foul-mouthed rant at Glastonbury as he performed the Legends slot on the Pyramid Stage. The 80-year-old’s performance was being live-streamed on BBC iPlayer, well before the watershed, when he dropped an F-bomb.
The Maggie May hitmaker walked out to a chorus of bagpipes before starting his first song. After he finished, he shouted out to the crowd: “Hey, I’m here! Music brings us together, we need music.”
But moments later, he complained about the sweltering heat and seemingly forgot he was being broadcast on the BBC. He moaned: “It’s f****** hot!”
Rod, who caused controversy recently after backing Nigel Farage, went on to speak of the many ongoing conflicts in the world.
Ahead of singing The Love Train, he said: “There’s been a lot about the Middle East lately, quite rightly so, but I want to draw your attention to Ukraine with the next song.”
It wasn’t long before he had to take off his fancy military-style jacket, to perform in a white shirt with open sides.
The crowd, which had plenty of people dressed up as him in leopard print and wigs, was loving the show.
However viewers at home were more mixed, with one saying: “Waiting for Rod Stewart to hit a note.”
Another said: “This Rod Stewart set up to now is absolutely class. What a total legend.”
The star’s wife, Loose Women favourite Penny Lancaster, and son Alistair were both there to support him.
The mother and son duo turned up in leopard print in a loving nod to Rod.
But his recent comments have angered many fans, after he spoke about politics with The Times.
He said: “It’s hard for me because I’m extremely wealthy, and I deserve to be, so a lot of it doesn’t really touch me. But that doesn’t mean I’m out of touch.
“For instance, I’ve read about Starmer cutting off the fishing in Scotland and giving it back to the EU. That hasn’t made him popular.”
