Legendary Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson told the How To Fail podcast that being “sexy for the world” brought her a lot of attention that she “didn’t like”. The former Playboy model said it can be “scary at times”
Pamela Anderson said she doesn’t like being regarded as a sex symbol because it comes with an expectation she would be a ‘wild animal between the sheets’.
The former Baywatch star, 58, said that being typecast as desirable meant partners would ‘expect’ things of her which was ‘jarring’.
She said being ‘sexy for the world’ brought her a lot of attention that she didn’t want.
The star, whose sex tape with then husband Tommy Lee in the 1990s gained worldwide notoriety, told the How To Fail podcast: “I don’t like being a sex symbol. I mean, I think it’s not very sexy.
“I think we all aspire to be sexy in our relationships, but sexy for the world is, I don’t know, it brought a lot of attention I didn’t like.
“But I hate to say that – because I’m not complaining, but I do feel that is kind of a slippery slope where you are presenting yourself to the world like this and you get this attention back that can be even scary at times.”
Anderson, who rose to fame in the early 90s after she was selected as Playboy magazine’s Playmate of the Month, said she now thinks it’s important for her to be ‘more natural’.
The model continued: “I want to challenge myself and present myself in different ways.
“Because women are many things, we’re not just the wild animal between the sheets.
“I did have people in my life, lovers or relationships, that would really expect things of me, or present themselves in a way where I thought, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second, I’m not maybe not so much what you think.
“Sometimes it was pretty jarring, but I’m glad I’m in this place now and looking back and think, well, I got to be that person. I got to have those experiences and those are all part of me.”
The actress added: “I can still be wild and crazy when I want to, but it’s not 24/7.”
In 2022, her private life was shone under the spotlight once again, with the TV series Pam & Tommy focused on their whirlwind romance.
She made her Broadway debut playing Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in 2022, and last year she starred in the film The Last Showgirl, which led to her being nominated for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award.
