Noel Gallagher paid a poignant tribute to fellow Manchester legend Caroline Aherne as he reunited with brother Liam on stage in their hometown.

Before performing Half the World Away, which was used as the theme tune to his classic The Royle Family, Noel dedicated the song to the show’s creator, saying: “This one is for Caroline.”

The actress, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014, passed away in 2016 at the age of 52.

It comes after the band paid tribute to tragic footy ace Diogo Jota as their comeback tour kicked off in Cardiff last week. News has also emerged of Noel’s extraordinary generosity to the Teenage Cancer Trust, an organisation he deeply cares about.

As stated on the charity’s website, the Teenage Cancer Trust provides “specialised nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them throughout treatment”, reports the Mirror.

It has been reported that Noel intends to make a sizeable donation to the charity using the earnings from Oasis’ world tour.

As Oasis fans flood into Manchester, the city has been blessed with a spell of hot weather, defying the unpredictable forecasts that usually accompany outdoor events in the UK. Manchester is bracing for temperatures nearing 30 degrees over the weekend as the mini-heatwave persists.

Officials at Heaton Park have eased their usual regulations, urging visitors to bring water, sun cream and hats into the venue.

While bringing food and beverages into the venue is typically forbidden, attendees are permitted to carry a collapsible 500ml water bottle. Once within the park, there will be designated water refill stations, in addition to the bar stocked with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Visitors are also advised to wear sun protection and, if feasible, a hat to minimise the risk of sunburn and heatstroke.

Medical aid will be available from three welfare tents, two located to the left of the stage and one to the right, near the merchandise stand and bar. However, sombre images from inside the tents reveal the measures in place to assist those affected by the heat.

BBC Radio 2 presenter and long-time fan Vernon Kay offered a peek inside a tent where numerous medical beds were lined up. He said: “Here we go, Heaton Park getting ready for those people who refuse to hydrate themselves.

He implored: “Come on, get some electrolytes in your body. We don’t want to see you on any of these mats. These are not for yoga, these are not yoga mats. This is not a sun lounger. These are where people will recover.”
