Oasis were in stunning form as they kicked off the first of five Heaton Park gigs – and Liam Gallagher couldn’t resist taking a pop at Manchester United amid their poor form
Liam Gallagher had a lot to share with the thousands gathered at the first of five Oasis Heaton Park gigs. The brothers were taken aback by the crowd’s reaction just moments into their performance on Friday, July 11.
The duo made their eagerly awaited entrance on stage at 8:15 pm, met with thunderous applause and cheers, before launching into a rousing rendition of Hello. Despite the blistering heat, Liam opted for his trademark Parka coat for the gig.
After Hello, the band segued into Acquiesce and then Morning Glory, before playing Some Might Say. Prior to performing Cigarettes and Alcohol, the lead singer instructed the crowd to turn around, stating: “I don’t ask for much.”
Liam then encouraged the audience to do the Poznan bounce, a move adopted by Manchester City fans. The Gallagher brother took a swipe at his derby rivals, Manchester United, urging them to put aside club colours and join in.
He quipped: “Stop sulking. You haven’t had a lot to jump around about lately. It’s f*****g easy, man.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Noel Gallagher mentioned that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was present, announcing: “The boss is here.”
The crowd obliged the brothers’ request, bouncing up and down to the iconic 1994 song. Liam was satisfied with the response, concluding the song by saying: “See United fans, it’s good s**t, isn’t it.”
Oasis ’25 launched with a bang last week, featuring two performances at the Cardiff Principality Stadium. The tour resumed today in their hometown with the first of five gigs in Heaton Park.
The UK was blessed with splendid sunshine for the first Manchester show on July 11.
The band became the voice of a generation when they shot to fame with the release of Definitely Maybe in 1994. They maintained their remarkable success with subsequent albums including (What’s the Story) Morning Glory, Be Here Now, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, Don’t Believe the Truth and Dig Out Your Soul.
However, in 2009, music fans worldwide were heartbroken when Noel announced his departure from the band. Noel left Oasis following a backstage altercation with Liam at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.
In a statement on the band’s website that same day, Noel declared: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. “People will write and say what they like but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer. “Apologies to all the people who bought tickets to the shows in Paris Konstanz and Milan.”
We are just glad they are now back.
