Oasis’ Heaton Park support act Cast were joined on stage during their opening set this evening by a music legend – for the first of five homecoming gigs this week
The first Oasis gig at Heaton Park has officially kicked off, with Britpop icons Cast being the first to take to the massive stage tonight.
This evening’s concert is the first of five homecoming shows for Oasis. Their Live ’25 reunion tour officially began in Cardiff last weekend, featuring support acts Cast and Richard Ashcroft to get the crowd going.
Fans have been speculating whether the set list for the Manchester gigs would differ from the opening two nights in Cardiff. While it remains to be seen for Oasis, Cast have certainly mixed things up.
The band, famous for hits like Walkaway and Guiding Star, debuted a brand new song this evening, which will feature on their recently announced upcoming album Yeah Yeah Yeah.
Announced this week, the band, led by John Power, will release the new record through Manchester-based independent record label Scruff of the Neck Records in January 2026.
It includes the new single Poison Vine, which had its world premiere on Vernon Kay’s Radio 2 show.
For the first performance of the track, the band brought legendary singer P. P. Arnold to the stage for the number. Praised as a ‘soul legend’ by frontman John, she has released music with the likes of Rod Stewart, Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller over the years.
However, the 78-year-old, originally from California, first shot to fame in 1965 as one of the renowned Ikette’s with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue.
The celebrated artist left the Revue in 1969 following a tour with the Rolling Stones, and has often mentioned how her friendships with both Tina Turner and Mick Jagger were instrumental in launching her career.
Speaking about their forthcoming album, Cast described it as exuding ‘the liberated spirit and unrestrained creativity it was captured in’. It’s set to span Cast’s diverse sounds, from string-laden, gospel-infused anthems to their timeless poignant melancholy, with moments of hard-hitting intensity, psychedelic funk and tranquil, acoustic serenity.
