Oasis have finally taken to the stage at Heaton Park in Manchester for their first homecoming gig in 16 years – and Noel Gallagher issued a message to the crowd
Noel Gallagher had a four-word message for fans at Heaton Park during Oasis’ highly anticipated homecoming gig.
As the brothers Noel and Liam took to the stage on Friday night, clasping hands and holding them aloft, Noel addressed the crowd through the microphone, “This is the place, THIS is the place.”
Referencing Tony Walsh’s tribute to Manchester, the moment sent shivers down spines as history unfolded.
Oasis have finally made their return after a 16-year hiatus, bringing Oasis fever back to life as they took the Heaton Park stage, marking a monumental moment in music history, accompanied by sunny weather.
The iconic Manchester band, led by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, kicked off their Heaton Park shows on July 11, playing to nearly 80,000 fans, with many locals and international fans attending this highly anticipated event, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Their Manchester performances, running until July 20, follow two nights in Cardiff as part of the Live ’25 tour. Announced last summer, the tour marks the first time the Gallagher brothers have reunited on stage in nearly 16 years, sending fans into a frenzy of nostalgia and excitement.
Journalist Dianne Bourne was present in the crowd when the Gallagher brothers made their entrance. Posting on X, she stated: ‘”This is the place, THIS is the place,” goosebumps moment as Noel and Liam Gallagher walk out together at Heaton Park, what a night! @oasis Manchester’.
Oasis is scheduled to perform 19 shows in the UK and Ireland this summer, visiting cities such as Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, before embarking on a series of international dates later this year. The lineup will feature Liam, Noel, and Bonehead, along with Andy Bell, Gem Archer, and Joey Waronker.
The band broke up in August 2009 due to the long-standing feud between Noel and Liam Gallagher. The final incident was a backstage altercation in Paris before a performance at Rock en Sein, where Noel claimed Liam used a guitar “like an axe”.
Consequently, Noel left the band, stating he could no longer work with Liam.
Prior to their opening shows in Cardiff in early July 2025, Oasis’ last performance together was at V Festival in August 2009. The 19-song setlist included hits like Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, Cigarettes and Alcohol, and Wonderwall, concluding with I Am The Walrus.
Oasis was formed in Manchester in 1991 and went on to become a defining band of the Britpop era and one of the world’s biggest and most influential bands, releasing seven albums over two decades. The Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, are renowned for their stage presence and songwriting prowess respectively.
However, their volatile relationship, marked by frequent arguments and name-calling, has provided ample material for the tabloids.
Following Oasis’ final split in 2009, each of the Gallagher brothers established their own bands, Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
