Oasis fans can’t believe what Liam Gallagher’s real name is.

The Oasis frontman kicked off the band’s highly anticipated comeback tour with two epic gigs at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium last weekend. The emotional shows saw brothers Liam and Noel grace the stage together for the first time in over 15 years.

But some fans are gobsmacked as they’ve only just clocked what Liam’s actual name is. They never knew that the 52-year-old Rock ‘N’ Roll singer was actually born William John Paul Gallagher on September 21 1972.

Liam and Noel were born to Irish parents Thomas and Peggy who shortened William to Liam. Liam is the Irish diminutive form of William, and his middle names John and Paul could be a reference to the band’s musical heroes The Beatles.

Fans have taken to social media to share their disbelief at finding out Liam’s actual name. One wrote: “I’ve only just realised that Liam is short for William.”

Another admitted: “Oh I had no idea about that!”, and a third wondered: “Maybe it’s something to do with Peggy being Irish? John and Paul are popular names due to being in the bible.”

Oasis played their first homecoming show at Manchester’s Heaton Park on Friday (July 11). They’ve got five dates which also include July 12, 16, 19 and 20 – with around 80,000 fans expected to attend each night.

Liam was snapped on a stroll in London after smashing the first leg of the band’s Live ’25 Tour. He tried his best to keep a low profile as he walked with fiance Debbie Gwyther in north west London.

The Supersonic singer was dressed for disguise as he wore a large black winter coat, despite the 22-degree heat in the capital. Liam had the hood up over a baseball cap to conceal his face, but allowed himself the luxury of a pair of shorts to help him stay cool.

Oasis delighted fans last August when they announced they were heading out on tour. They told fans “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

Liam has discussed how “spiritual” it’s been to reunite with Noel after feuding for years. One fan asked on X/Twitter: “How does it feel singing songs with ur brother again? Like old times? (sic)”.

The musician replied: “You know what it’s spiritual but I can’t help think about all those wasted years, what a waste of PRECIOUS time (sic).”

Oasis will also be playing in Canada, the US, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Chile, and Argentina. They will finish their tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
